Look up the statistics for stabbings in the US. Our problem isn't the weapons. It is our culture of hate and violence, and our apparent disconnect from the world around us. And this isn't just an American problem. People are becoming more and more self-absorbed in this consumer culture that is about nothing but serving ones self. How many of you people have ever even been in their neighbors house, or invited them over for dinner before? Now ask your grandparents the same question. Bet you a lot more of them have done this than you. |

See, this is the kind of law that a person who has never had firearms or combat training would propose. When did I suggest disarming people, or are you just trying to put words into my mouth so you can avoid inconvenient facts. I've got plenty of guns. I don't feel like giving them up. Of course, I only use them for hunting and such, but still. Personally, I'm not sure what a person should do about trying to control these types of things. Make it harder to get guns? Nah, the guy was using his mom's guns. Better psychiatric care in America? Sounds kinda invasive into my personal life. No more assault rifles or high capacity magazines? Well, doesn't affect me, but I doubt it would have had any impact on this. Only thing I was suggesting was that you can't stop kids from getting hurt when a well-armed and well-prepared psychopath enters a school with an intent to kill just by arming so school administrator. The only thing I would support is more funding towards education and wellness. Make people more than just a student ID when they go through the schools. Identify problems, and help people work through them when they are in school. Give people personal attention. Treat people like people. Be a good fucking neighbor. You know, that shit we had back in the day, when your kid could go trick or treating without you having to check his candy for razor blades and poison. Apologies, I was responding to the sentence at the very top and mixed in a reply to your point about training/readiness having no deterrent value. You have written a good post with good points. I would only ask you to consider that, in addition to what you say, having the will and means to stop these insane people as soon as practically possible is a piece of the solution. They do these things in "gun free" zones. Once they learn their little murder spree will result in something very bad for them, there will be virtually none. |

They live in a highly militarized country that only knows how to deal with problems by punishment and/or military tactics. If they lose their guns they lose their lives to their government.
