Re: Video games? Really?
Relax, games cant and WONT be banned, too much money on them. Even if they are indeed banned, the industry will relocate to some other country, like europe or even china...
As for the software itself, it is impossible to ban such a thing, they tried it with counter-strike in brazil, guess what happened? Not a single fuck was given about the ban, lan houses and gamers still played it in high amounts and the law was simply put invalid by the people.
The only ban that works is the ban that the "sheeple" follow, and there are too many gamer "sheeple" in the US/EU for it to take effect.

5 stars for an excellent post OP.

The idea that video games like GTA cause people to go on shooting rampages is among the most idiotic garbage I've ever heard.

WOW, my first pin, Thanks.
Growing up the only game system I had was an Atria 2600. when I was at the age were other kids where playing with video game after school,I hung out the local hobby shop. So instead of learning how to kill thingys on what ever game, I was learning how to create and build things. I'll admit I have a love for aircraft and It lead to my current job as a designer. Its funny where Model trains, airplanes and tanks can take you in life.

I take it that making model trains / airplanes / tanks in your youth didn't make you go on any killing sprees with real world trains / airplanes / tanks? ;-)

The American Pediatric Association has stated: Video games played more than an hour a day has proven to make children Fat, Lazy, and Violent. My 10 year old does not play them or watch T.V. Not worth the risk.

Compared to playing Football which makes one athletic, motivated and violent. Between Football and VIDEO GAMES which results in the biggest potential threat in this context? Clearly we need to ban Football. For the children.

Re: Video games? Really?
I think, that parents hold the key to the destiny of their children, but they often tell to the children, that they do not! They do not want to look at the bad destiny of their children. But the problem is, that everybody, who rises children, is responsible for the decisions, in which direction the life of his children want to go. But that direction cannot be perfect choosen, when the parents have not a possibility, to choose the right environement. Why do they not choose it? Because they do not see it clearly, where they have to choose against themselves. If a parent choose to live with own children, he/she has to decide against his/her own plasiour, too, sometimes. But the most people are directed by massmedia, only to consume the world, not to give hope and love, and to be clean in their minds.
So, they do not check the problem reality. They just do not check it!

:plk0k:

I couldn't agree more. There is a window of time where children don't grasp if they are the good or bad guy, they just know shooting is the goal in those games. Now get that 7 or 8 year old when he/she is 18 - 20 years old. They feel rage, depression, whatever - I have to believe that the rush and fun in a game where you have power to kill would possibly push this disturbed young adult to get that rush by shooting randomly at real people.
only we don't have a reset button.

I think there is something terribly pathetic about a person who would rather stay inside all day playing games where they slaughter people - then get online and brag about it. They never even notice that the sun has risen and set during the day.
I do respect those who keep that mess out of their kids lives and let them play sports, music, art....whatever. Do something real, not live in a fake world.
BTW - how can anyone think of slaughtering people as a 'game'? SICK

Yes, that is it: music, sports, something real! But, of course, the most children ourdays do not go there, because everything is so expensive.

To live is to believe in the power of dreams! To dream is to believe in the power of love! To love is to Know the truth!
The Desire to Be fuel the belief that you Are which ignite the Will to Become which bring back forth the desire to be...
Let it be-come you! It means Stop seeking your higher self! It is seeking you! Stand still in your mind to calm the waters of your mind and then it shall find you, so you can ride those waves together!
your true self lies somewhere between your heart and your consciousness. It is called the heart consciousness, which is the creator, which is you!
The heart create the emotions and our mind evoke its purpose, from which we dream the life we live in order to imagine the nature of reality and finally remember love!

The highest Purpose of our mind is the ability to Forget! Go on and Forgive yourself!
There is no love in truth but there is truth in love!
Be authentic, nobody else can do it for you!

Well a couple killers like that Norway dude Breivik that killed over 70 people did kinda play that top selling agme call of duty modern warfare 2 to train a bit and shoot people in the game probably played that nice mission where you gun innocent people down in an airport

look at that how can that make someone evil or demoralize them.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 26472864

You're missing the context.

You are a CIA agent trailing a Russian terrorist, you've infiltrated his group as one of his own to stop this very thing from happening on a larger scale.
You're never once encouraged to fire a single shot. You can walk through the entire mission, until the Russian shoots you and scapegoats the Americans.

Not only that, you were given an option to skip the mission altogether.

I don't know why I'm bothering explaining this to you, but there is no study that can conclusively prove that video games make children prone to murdering large amounts of people.

You simply must read Plato's Republic in the light it was meant for. Your body is its own city/state. You must place guards at the gate. Ah but we are not endowed with intellectuals of that capacity in this day and age.

It is again in place to teach competition...to create divide amongst people. To get Americans to hate Americans because of the "team" they like. It's all about competition and divide and conquer...and guess what...it works.

I'm not really sure anyone here is qualified to say whether or not video games can have such a psychological effect on a human being considering the number of controls, nature of the individuals tested, without looking conclusively at a huge range of factors that could determine whether or not an individual is prone to violence from video games. In my opinion, desensitization to the horror of murder may influence people to be less apathetic to a living human being. Havent any of you when the technology started getting better and better thought to yourselves that this might be the best way to virtually train a soldier and saw yourselves in that seat as well, come on be honest with yourself, all vid heads have.

I think a huge problem with the kids that went to Iraq that came back with severe PTSD were big video game heads at home and just couldnt wait to really go kill something but didnt factor in the REALITY of having your best friend cut in half by an IUD, the blood, the twitching. Even video games cant prepare you for the smell and look, of death.

Now we are getting somewhere. I can only speak for the person I had become in my early 20's due to over exposure. I would remember feeling real rage if I wasn't killing at the rate in which I felt I should be. It lead to insane shouting matches over the microphones with people I didn't even know. Calling them names and trying to belittle them...It was the day that I got so mad that I felt a pain in my chest that I realized the video games were taking me down a road I didn't understand....and they had changed me to some degree. I no longer play them, watch tv, or movies.

You're wrong. You're apparently too close to the trees to see the forest.
Everything about American media is focused on turning American males into military material. If you turn on the tv or see a movie or play a video game, you just can't get away from it. They're programming America's boys to be soldiers. They expect for American men to be the grunts for the NWO. A few apparently might go a little sideways and shoot a few people, but that's just collateral damage to me. The main problem to me is the militarization of America's youth by every arm of the media.
