Is There A Argument For The Public Owning Assault Weapons?
The media and government officials have been talking about banning assault weapons. I thought they were banned. But whether I am right or wrong a lot of the general public appear to own these weapons.

Is there a argument for allowing the general public to own assault weapons? Who will take this on?

I don't think the average citizen needs assault weapons. If you need something for protection, I figure there is something more suitable. I think both your gov't and ours
need to do a better job of keeping the weaponry out of the
hands of criminals. Then people would not have as much need to own guns.

See how well you do with a single shot rifle against a criminal with an assault weapon, who still has them, illegally of course
wink

The war on drugs worked so well, and don't we feel oh sooooo much safer because of it??? Let's spend billions of $$$ on guns too !!!!

Won't there always be a alternative to what ever the government bans? Like bombs! Seems to me that mass killers will carry out their mission no matter what. 99.9% of the general public don't murder two dozen people. But where there is a will there's a way. Am I wrong?

An "Assault Weapon" (we'll let that be a semi-auto rifle with high capacity magazine for the sake of argument) is the minimum weapon required to be able to strike fear into a modern army. What I mean is that these weapons are the least powerful weapon that the public could have as an effective tool to fight against a tyrannical government.

Yes, our second amendment says the right to bear arms should NOT be infringed.

It doesn't say there are limitations to it.

Assault Weapons are already illegal anyway, morans.

Yeah, to resist the rise of the oppressive government your unwittingly advocating. I want to be free, fuck governments at this point, I just want to be left alone to live a happy life as I see fit.

If that was true the assault weapons ban would have made it to the floor at least once sense it expired but it has not.

Guess I'll repeat my self...

I don’t know a single cop who would leave their wife at home unarmed with the kids why they go to work.

People have a movie based opinion of guns; a gun is a tool just the same as a hammer to be used as a tool.

I’ve said this before, my father used to keep his gun loaded in his locker a school along with all his other friends who would go shooting after school. No one cared, it was normal!

What we have today is uneducated public that more and more their only contact with guns is through movies and bad media. They think you can shoot a car and it will blow up! They have very little real concepts of what gun is for; they do not even realize people actually shoot their dinners in real life daily! They have done nothing but buy from the grocery store their whole lives.

Knowing what a gun is and how to use it removes a person’s preconceived ideas and fears. Besides why have a gun if everyone in the house is not trained on safety and respect and proper use of all weapons.

I got my first browning BA22 at the age of 3, you don’t hide guns from kids that just makes them more curious, like putting a big red button on a table and saying don’t push that button! You educate them.

Hunting has ZERO to do with the 2nd Amendment.

P.S. - If you really are a Hunter you'd know you just can't hunt anytime you want. Keeping and Bearing Arms is a Constitutional Right protected by the Bill of Rights. Hunting is a privilege and regulated by season and permit.

Is it naive to believe we American's will never be attacked by foreign foot soldiers, or will need to defend ourselves and need assault weapons??

yes...for enemies foreign and domestic...

I'm SO SICK of people saying the 2nd amendment is for hunting....I'm starting to get tired of people saying it's only for hunting and protection from home intruders.

NO!

The 2nd amendment, FIRST and FOREMOST, is for protection AGAINST TYRANNY!!!!!!

If you think our enemies, whether abroad or inside our own gov't, are scared of a pea shooter, think again!!

The musket WAS the assault rifle of it's day. It's not the constitution that has changed, it's technology! Take away this right and we fall victim like 10s of millions that did under Hitler, Stalin, pol pot, Mao, etc etc etc.

Do you always fantasize about penises or is it just when the subject of guns comes up?

I always find it funny when someone equates something they don't like (guns, big trucks, fast cars, etc) to small penises. It really says something about someone if they automatically think of penises when certain subjects come up.

If you need another thing to think about, consider this. Guns have been legal, and common in this country since its founding - for over 200 years. A hundred years ago you would have been hard pressed to find a house without a gun in it.

The mass killings are a recent phenomena. You'll have to find something else to blame it on. The Psychiatric profession that keeps administering mind altering drugs instead of boots in the ass is a good place to start.

As long as the government thugs have assault weapons, then the citizens must have them as well. It is written in the 2nd amendment the reason for having guns and it isn't for hunting, it is to protect ourselves & property from a tyrantical oppressive government.
