Seriously, the OP is telling the truth, I saw what he is talking about. I was outsiide and pushing my trash down better into trash can and I saw the huge flash of light that came from the direction of Vancouver BC. It was very quick and I did not hear any noises probably because I am very far away from there but the flash came from off the ground, not from the sky above where you would normally see a flash of lightning and it was extremely bright but lasted only a second. It caused me to look up from what I was doing and take notice. I thought it very odd indeed because it came from the ground up and was just so bright and did in fact light up the entire land and sky in that area. I don't think it was lightning and I kept on waiting for the thunder to make a noise but it never did.

Do you not go look for it....? you were all ready in your car, Flash then 5secs would have been a small area to search. I know i would have and have done.

I am over 5 kilometers from OP, and I as well saw the flash and heard the bang. Wouldn't of been able to discover the "source".

One time at my old job, a hose for the welding gas refill station blew. It sounded like a shotgun, but then started getting louder and louder.

Comparable to that, but on a louder scale.
