Every animal is hardwired to get calories for energy and energy storage. All that's happened is a lot of calories is so much easier to get now then when we had to chase it down and kill it. People are screwed, it's a programmed response and part of our genetics to want energy rich food. Pork fat? yum. Bacon? Yum. Duck fat. Yum. MMMM calories

Now combine that with a group of people that know if the people are too fat, too lazy, too well fed, they won't have the energy to rebel, they won't have the hunger to drive the rebellion and seriously, they can stop the people by putting a couple flights of stairs in the way...
