I was raised in Amherst Virginia.. This place has had this happen before. Weird.

Amherst, VA - Amherst County dispatch comfirms a major stucture fire at the Ambriar Shopping Center Monday Night.

A large number of fire crews are responding to the scene.

Witnesses are telling us they felt and heard an explosion and see flames in the area.

ABC 13 News has a crew on the scene and will bring you more updates as soon as we can.

A complete update also coming up on ABC 13 News at 11 p.m.

I cant find anything hardly on it...

It's a small place, dollar general, Mexican restaurant, furniture store. Not a large mall, so hopefully not a ton of people affected.

Police just finished a big time drug bust in Amherst and arrested 71 people. I will look for the link.

It was when my daughter was young. She was about 10 or so so I would say about 12 years ago maybe?

Yes it was propane tanks. If I am correct they are behind a restaurant.

This shopping center is a rinky dink place that is lucky to have a Hardee's

Supposedly the tanks are behind the Alcohol beverage control store, or the ABC store as we use to call it down south.

I was also on the squad there. Fire fighters there will be glad for the action.

For location purposes. This town is about 20 minutes outside of Jerry Falwells mega church and university.

Convenient that the toilet safety administration wants to invade shopping malls too.

In the deeper south they called liquor stores "red dot" stores - because there was a big red dot painted on the outside for identification purposes. The illiteracy rate was so high, that was the only way they locals knew where to buy booze.

This was 1979 in South Carolina. Don't know if they've learned to read yet, I left in 1980.
