I've had mine for over thirty years now.

People used to take the "rocks" that they knew had crystals in them and mark them with a value. They would stack these and transport them for trade at later times.

Most likely it is covered in clay on top of the stone, get it a little wet and sees if it comes off like clay. They are worth a lot more intact and geologists will not know what they are, hit the natural history museum.

The crystals themselves are not worth much, the artifact is, I have only see a few in my life time. I have been trying to get a Xray of mine for 20+ years now.

On a side note, my cats have always loved the thing, in an over loving weird way! It does give off a strang fealing.

One more thing OP, the rock is "money" it will not be cursed, but where did you get it?

It will date back more then 10,000 years...did you rob a grave and did not know it?

One more pic for you OP with a pen for your size comparison. BTW mine is marked with a shell pressed in to the clay just to the right of the pen in the pic. It may just contain sea shells. Each one will be diffrent but look semi the same on the out side.

Took me months of research to find out what it was back before the internet was around. I am a big rock collector, maybe do a post on it one day.

Very interesting posts about the ancient rocks marked and stored because they contained crystals, never heard of that til reading this thread just now.
