A 53-year-old woman paralyzed from the neck down by a genetic neurodegenerative condition has learned to manipulate a robotic arm with her thoughts, researchers report today in The Lancet. In the video above, she uses the arm to remove plastic cones stacked on a base and restack them one by one on another base. Surgeons had implanted two 4x4-millimeter grids of hair-thin electrodes in her brain to capture signals from regions involved in planning hand and arm movements....

just watched her on the news... amazing....

Very awesome. I am kinda against animal testing, but this would not have happened the way it did, or as quickly as it did.

Hopefully, scientists and engineers responsible for animal testing do so in a truly humane & loving manner. Hopefully they choose to work with animals who are already afflicted with these disabilities.

Citizen,

Did you know, the new film, The Hobbit. It has
robotics used in it. I haven't seen it yet but I like
the author of the book.

So...it's not the Star Wars type animation.

I don't know, I just don't think I'd want a hand job from a chick with a robotic arm...I'd be afraid she'd sneeze and rip my dick off...

True, I guess once they prove it's safe they could make all sorts of attachments for it too, the Flesh-right hand and so on :)

Duke University was doing brain mapping years ago. Read an article at my surgeon's office 10 years ago...cool stuff.
