UK Emergency Procedures In The Event of Nuclear War etc..
At school, I knew a kid whose father had been a diplomat and had been involved in the emergency planning.

The Jubilee Undergound line (subway line), was constructed primarily for the purpose not of shifting commuters, but to facilitate the preservation of Government.

The ACTUAL route of the line takes it beneath...

- Buckingham Palce
- 10 Downing Street *where the Prime Minister Resides)
- Parliament
- The Foreign Office
- The Admiralty
etc

Each of these places had a staircase built allowing people to run down ot the tube line in the event of an emergency. (I you travel the line you can glimpse it in its siding)

A train sits on a siding on permanent standby in Central London, so that if a nuclear strike etc is imminent, everyone can be picked up swiftly. The Jubilee was also designed to be the fastest subway train on the line with the then fastest engine units.

The Line was built as an express line so it will not have to stop for other trains. Indeed, the longest stretch of underground track between two stations lies on this line at St Johns Wood.

Once it has left, central London, the train will sprint to the other end of the track to RAF Northwood which has the UK's central command bunker, the primary DUMB for the UK

If you are trapped in Central London during a catastrophy that is imminent and you can't get on the "special train", the best place to go would probably be Tottenham Court Road Station.

Curiously, despite no form of hiding the huge several ton blast doors near the escalators, few realise that this was redesigned to act as a fallout shelter, capable of withstanding several tons of overpressure.

If nuclear war is imminent, the most important thing to do in the UK, is, if at all possible, get past the M25 ring road around London.

In order to stop injured and panicked people flooding the country, once nuclear strike is imminent, it is actually law that it becomes utterly illegal to drive on the road under punishment of summary execution and the Police have orders to lockdown London at the M25, posting men along it.

If you don't escape the M25 and into the country instantly, you are trapped like an animal, just awaiting being vapourised of critically injured, whilst the Government speeds past you underground to RAF Northwood.

At least once you are outside the M25, you can just keep walking.

In the event of nuclear war etc being imminent, all private and commercial phones will be shutdown in order to keep all phones free for emergency services.

Before impact, all Fire Departments (Fire Brigades in England) have orders to immediately leave the city to the country, to ensure their survival, so don't expect anyone helping to put out the fire in your house if you get hit. There won't be a fire engine for 50 miles or so.

If Nuclear War does occur, even where food and medical suplies enough do still exist, the authorities have orders NOT to distribute it. This is for two reasons...

1. to Force people to do dangerous work for food, work like sweeping fallout off buildings that will inevitably kill the person.

2. Deliberately to kill you by starvation and to kill off the weak and injured so those that remain will be the fitter ones.

in the event of Nuclear War etc, emergency powers allow the authorities to conscript all those over the age of 40 as forced labour doing tasks like sweeping fallout off buildings which will inevitably kill them. They will be promised food but will get none as there is viewed as no reason to give food to those who will die anyway as a result of doing these dangerous tasks. Those that refuse conscription must be shot on the spot by a Police who will be armed with revolvers, or the officers themselves will be shot for mutiny.

It takes 0.001 seconds for a nuclear bomb to reach critical mass. Tell me if the underground is built so TPTB can escape into it, how the hell (other than foreknowledge) would they do so in 0.001 second.

With over 450 primary strike targets, the UK holds the record for the highest number of targets per mile for any country in the world.

Conversely, the place with the highest number of nuclear warheads guarding it per head of the population is the Falkland Islands with one sub carrying 8 Trident missiles on permanent standby, targeted at the 8 largest population cities in Argentina, ready to level them at a moment's notice should the Argentinians attempt to invade a second time. This has been made clear to the Argentinians, the USA and Russia.

The flight time of a missiles from Russia is up to 20 minutes, PLUS these procedures would go into effect in the event that the UK were to launch against a nuclear power, eg Pakistan, or if someone else had launched a nuke in a theatre of war where the UK is involved, eg, an Israeli nuke on Tehran at a tie when Tehran has the bomb.

>>>There is no way that the Emergency services could be out in time.<<<<

Town Clerks in major cities are briefed that they could receive a critical communication from central Government in an emergency which override all else.

As tensions escalate, Police despatch riders will deliver instructions to them giving either direct instructions or the relevant codes necessary to open key documents held in a safe at each authority.

ONce these are done, these override all others and all relevant forces, auhorities must be ready on standby to enforce within 20 minutes or so.

However, the ability to do so could well be patchy which is why someone in a fast car stands a chance to beat an M25 blockade.

The entire system is based on the assumption that one will know well in advance of such an emergency. For example, if one knows of some impending 21 Dec 2012 disaster in Government, the Police dispatch riders would already be on their way probably.

Re: UK Emergency Procedures In The Event of Nuclear War etc..
Personally I have always taken this knowledge as a bit of miss information.. if the UK had a Deep underground base it would be where no one would find it.

besides there is a separate line to the one you mentioned.. I worked at the BoE for a while, and they, along with the Royal Mail have their own tube line/stations.

Known example, the Post Office Railway.
[link to en.wikipedia.org]

*IF* there was a route out of the capital it would be via those types of lines, not the public ones we know about.. and I can't help but think an escape route would be heading in the other direction..

A couple of examples of Britains slight of hand in these things, HMS Aggressive was one of the major underground bases during WW2 (it is on the hill opposite me) to enter the base you need to go through room 16 of the Guinness Trust Holiday home, this was a holiday home used by the Guinness trust for their poor inner-city tenants.

It's existence was still being denied by the MoD and Imperial War Museum up to 1998..

[link to www.secret-tunnels.co.uk]

Another example is Britians Ultra decryption site in Bombay, while the USA had a major high walled complex complete with barbed wire and guards, Britain used a small wooden shed in the grounds of the Embassy, and protected by a guy sitting behind a table, so while BOTH sites processed similar information you know which one came under close scrutiny of spies! the obvious one.

Slight of hand is what my government is good at..

I doubt that place could survive a direct hit from a Russian H-Bomb. There's more likely to be A DUMB built into the side a of mountain, for VIP's, giving a greater chance of survival.

South Wales - well within an hour of London, by helicopter. As the person said above, any fallout shelter for VIP's would not be somewhere where the Russian's knew of.

Remember, when the train reaches Northwood, having powered down a track deliberately cleared by shifting everything onto the Metropolitan Line, it can be directed straight underground at Northwood. A 20 minute journey is tough but feasible.

A Few things here raise questions

Most of the jubilee line is overground from west hampstead.

Northwood has no runway making it a dead end

Its well known that Buckingham palace has its own bunker and many suggest a tunnel to the tube.
