Yeah since the 1930's, criminals in the usa used full-auto Thompson SMG's and BAR's against cops with revolvers.

I believe it was Roosevelt and part of the new deal that included laws that made it basically impossible for a regular person to get a full-auto weapon. At the time you could buy a tommy-gun for about two or three weeks pay, the laws made it so that only people who could afford the taxes could buy them, jacking the price up to the equivalent of a YEARS pay. The colt factory was experimenting with full-auto 1911 pistols as well, baby-face nelson used one chambered in .38 super with a 30 rd magazine. Criminals will get these guns no matter what, in fact they will get guns that the cops don't even know exist.

Assault rifles are NOT illegal, automatic weapons are...there IS a difference between the two.

Do I? Automatic weapons are illegal, just because something is an assault rifle does not make it illegal. They sell assault rifles in sporting goods stores...sure I could find a sub machine gun in there, too. I think it's YOU that needs further education on the subject son.

The law is for every gun; handguns, rifles, and assault weapons. Some standard magazines for handguns are capable of holding sixteen rounds, but the only people legally allowed to possess such magazines are people who owned them prior to the ten round restriction becoming law on January 1, 2000.
So let it be clear that what the government calls an “assault weapon” is not a machine gun as they would like people to believe, but is instead a classification given to a firearm because it contains a combination of features such as a flash suppressor, a collapsible stock, a pistol grip, or other features. It’s also important to understand that frequently when the mainstream media airs stories about “assault weapons” or renewing the “assault weapon” ban, they show footage of people in the desert or at shooting ranges using fully automatic guns which have been basically illegal for civilians too use for over 75 years.
