I think we'll see a repeat of the '94 "Assault" weapons ban.

I doubt they'll enact a no-Grandfathering clause, as it would lead to serious civil unrest.

I can see how that could be a concern, but I think it would be too difficult for the state to run a psych evaluation of everyone who goes to purchase a firearm.

Through Sunday, there have been at least 200 homicides compared to 134 during the same period in 2011, a 49.25 increase, according to unofficial police data.

Shootings are up nearly 14 percent over the last year through Sunday: 851 compared to 747 in 2011, according to the data.

Gun homicides increased by more than 70 log points between 2000 and 2007, but shootings actually decreased over this period. The rise in homicides cannot therefore be attributed simply to more shootings. A higher proportion of shootings had intent to hit someone, and a higher proportion did hit someone, but the major story is that the probability of a murder conditional on a hit rose: 56% of the log rise in gun homicides is due to the higher conditional probability of death conditional on being hit by a gunshot. Murders rose mainly because shootings became more deadly, especially shootings where someone was wounded.

They'll just attempt ban the "assault" looking rifles and limit magazine capacity to ten rounds. Is that really so bad?

That's what I'm thinking they will do. But when you say that's not so bad, that's great that it's not soo bad for you. Many people I'm sure feel that way. But why should what you or others think is "not so bad" be pushed on EVERYONE? Why is your opinion of not so bad good enough for all?

It will be the 1994 ban on steroids. If you have an "evil black rifle" you can keep it but you won't be able to sell it. If it breaks it will be illegal for a gun smith to work on it. Also no mfg of parts by anyone. It also will do nothing for lowering crime. But the Feinsteins of this world will have a feel good moment and pat themselves on the back.

Probably the best bit of legislation would be to remove guns from everyone that has been treated for a mental illness. GLP would be gunless, then

That brings up another interesting point. What if anything, should be changed in school security? Armed gaurds? Metal detectors? Would we even feel better if we made children feel like they were in prison?

Reinforced and bulletproof windows then...just like banning illegal drugs, banning guns will only get them out of the hands of those that obey the law...murderers generally don't obey laws.
