Someone please help me out, i have been wondering what will happen if this gun control law gets approved. Are they gonna go house by house to collect the guns? If not; there will still be millions of guns in the US, thus the "problem" won't go away. What's your opinion on this one guys?

It's not to the point where they will collect the already purchased firearms...Yet.

At the minimum:
1. Magazine capicity of more than 10 rounds prohibited.
2. Cannot purchase more than one gun a month.
3. 15 day waiting period for gun purchases.
4. Ban on all semi auto pistol and rifles.
5. Limit on the amount of ammunition purchased.
6. Holographic and laser sights limited to military and law enforcement only.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 30230129

The only thing on that list with a prayer of coming close to passing into law anytime soon is the magazine limitation.

The bolded though indicates that you don't know the first thing about guns. All pistols are semi-auto. Semi-auto simply means that when you pull the trigger it goes bang... one time without having to seperately cock the gun for another shot. One trigger pull = one bang. The 101 year old 1911 Colt 45 and almost all revolvers going back to the 1800's do this as well. They aren't going to be banning 100+ year old tech any time soon.

link worked for me just now, fwiw

but check out that link re the DC registration policy.

Apparently they are using CALIFORNIA as the basis for their laws, wtf?

from that pdf: [link to mpdc.dc.gov]

6. An unsafe handgun prohibited under DC Official
Code § 7-2505.04. This provides that beginning
January 1, 2009, a pistol that is not on the California
Roster of Handguns Certified for Sale, (also known
as the California Roster of Handguns Determined
Not to be Unsafe), may not be manufactured, sold,
given, loaned, exposed for sale, transferred, or imported into the District of Columbia, unless it was
owned and registered before this date.

Handguns on the roster have passed firing, safety,
and drop tests and are certified for sale in California by the California Department of Justice.

The Council of the District of Columbia has determined that prohibiting handguns that are not on
the California roster will help to protect residents
from unsafe handguns that are more prone to accidental discharge, lack safety devices to prevent
unintended discharge, misfire, and are prone to
firing when dropped.

For more information on the
California certification program and requirements,
please consult with the Bureau of Firearms in the

Re: GUN CONTROL,. WHAT WILL THE NEW PROPOSED LAWS BE?
I think it will happen in steps.

First an assault weapon and high capacity magazine ban PDQ like in the coming weeks along with more stringent background checks. This time wont be like the last, IE this time no AR15 rifles will be sold period. If you want an AR you better go buy one now.

Followed by...

Gun registration nationwide.

Ban on reloading supplies.

Ammo registration.

Finally Total retroactive ban and confiscation on all auto, semiauto and pump rifles, shotguns and pistols. Possible partial ban on revolvers.
IE turn in your guns or go to jail.

Amnesty offer for the holdouts, before we lock you up.

Ending with something similar to what Canada has now.

But that will only fade away the "problem" on the long term since most people already have a nice stash of ammunition, i'm also reading a lot of stories on message boards of people who are buying shitloads of ammunition after the school shooting of last week. These new comments on gun control by Obama will also certainly cause a huge rise in the demand of ammunition.

WHITE HOUSE: OBAMA ‘ACTIVELY SUPPORTIVE’ OF ASSAULT WEAPONS BAN

The White House says President Barack Obama is “actively supportive” of efforts on Capitol Hill to reinstate an assault weapons ban, marking a change from the more open-ended support of “change” in days and years past.

President Obama has long backed stricter gun laws, but failed to make significant headway during his first term.

Now, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) plans to introduce legislation to reinstate the ban early next year, and while White House spokesman Jay Carney was noncommittal yesterday, he’s now put the White House on record.

“He is actively supportive of, for example, Sen. [Dianne] Feinstein’s stated intent to revive a piece of legislation that would reinstate the assault weapons ban,” Carney remarked Tuesday during his daily briefing.

remember how mental illness was used as a way to neutralize enemies of the state in the USSR?

Haven't you wondered at the epidemic of therapsts putting people on anti-depressants, or the trends towards diagnosing anything unusual in children as ADD or schizophrenia?

When I was growing up, kids were thought to be fidgety, some had a short attention span, others were moody, but they weren't mentally ill

I have long thought that all of this easy dispensation of psychiatric pharmaceuticals (all documented by your insurance claims history) was setting the ground for greater control

and as we know, your entire history is now collected under your drivers license data base

No doubt the first phase is to prohibit arms ownershp for anyone who has been prescribed anti-depressants unless given a special release which will near impossible to obtain

Now we know why they were pushing those things like candy

Re: GUN CONTROL,. WHAT WILL THE NEW PROPOSED LAWS BE?
I'm going to post this here once. I could start my own thread but I got lambasted by gunowners for suggesting an alternative to losing our guns the other day, so those who happen across it, good for you.

about 6 years ago I started working at a large machine shop. This shop had many CNC mills, lathes and machining centers.. About 4 years ago a large gun manufacturer came needing help in keeping up with demand. Many of the components we made were for AR rifles. Mostly trigger components, picatinny rails and such. No lower or upper receivers.

during this time I worked closely with the son of the current president of the company. He is a mechanical engineer, as am I. He came by often for quality control inspections and even helped programming of the machines. We are the same age. Anyway, we hit it off and he invited me to the headquartes several times where he showed me new products and we talked about guns. We ended up, over the past years becoming good friends.

recently we were bowling together and talk turned to Obama and gun sales, which I know are through the roof. I asked him about the future of his family company and when he'd be talking the helm.. He said that "there will be no company to inherit."

he then proceeded to tell me this: about 2 years ago Obama had a closed door session with all of the heads of the gun companies in the US. He gave them an ultimatum. They had 2 to 3 years to make as much money as possible, after that their sales strategies were going to go through a major shift. Manufacturing would shift from semi-auto rifles to single shot hunting rifles. This would drive many of them out of business.

some asked how he planned on doing this, and he said that it will happen. He suggested that the 2nd amendment applies to the national guard only and was never truly meant for the average citizen.. He said there would be new taxes levied on gun owners, making gun ownership very expensive. Yearly registrations, and liscensing was possible.

he then proceeded to explain that most gun sales are to repeat buyers. That many AR sales are by people who own 15 to 20 of these style rifles and that many are being bought on credit. That these people don't have the financial means to afford these firearms but are going into deep debt to buy them.. These people are mentally I'll and this addiction is similar to a drug or porn addiction.

this is my recap of what my friend told me. Now here's why I post this now. I just read that cerberus is selling off Freedom Group. If you don't know what that means, Freedom Group is the largest gun manufacturing company in the US right now.. Yearly sales approach 1 billion dollars! And they're selling!

my friend said that one CEO asked how they think they could pull this off and the response was that public opinion was changing and would continue to change.

I own several "assault" weapons. Sadly, this is it

okay, I posted the above on another thread this morning. I'm back and talked to my buddy.. Then I see that a bunch of stores have already stopped selling guns! This is moving really fast.

the plan is to start by implementing outrageous taxes on guns. These taxes will then be used to provide the funds for buyback programs all across the US. After these taxes, they are going to start having yearly registrations. Gun owners will need to get a liscense to own a gun. Each gun will be required to be registered and taxed. These taxes will be based on each gun, a .22 will be less than a .223. A shotgun will be less than a 9mm.

gun manufacturers have been told to begin shifting from semi-auto firearms to single shot firearms.. Internal magazines holding no more than 5 rounds, requiring manual reloading and more safeties, making it harder to shoot.

they cannot take away our guns so they will make them so expensive we can't afford them, just like cigarettes. Then they will legislate them into crap.

Wow.

That's crazy man. It all makes sense too.

Well, the ignorant masses are cheering for it to happen.

Re: GUN CONTROL,. WHAT WILL THE NEW PROPOSED LAWS BE?
I just received this email from change.org about signing some gun control petitions. The email campaigns have begun now.

Here's the email and links they sent me.

"As Americans process the grief, fear, and anger stemming from last Friday's tragic shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, many are calling for action. In response to the shooting, more than 1,000 people -- including many in and around Newtown -- started petitions on Change.org, calling for tighter gun laws, stronger mental health services, and support for the victims' families.

Here are a few petitions calling for meaningful action in response to the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School. You can click here to browse and sign other petitions started in response to the tragedy in Newtown."

Kate, I read your posts here and I like you, but honestly having lived in both countries I have to say Canada is quite different from the US on this issue

I do not see why Canadians are personally so active in attempting to change US policies, as Americans do not get involved in attempting to set policy in Canada (screw what our government does, and I know they get involved influencing policies around the world. I'm talking about individuals)

If Americans started getting busy signing petitions to change the laws and policies in Canada, I think Canadians would be right to say "bugger off"

Not picking a fight with you on other issues...just bringing it up in regards to this

This is a uniquely American argument and no doubt it will get very heated in coming weeks and months.

It wasn't until I lived in Canada that I realized how different we really are in some respects

Unless you were raised here and really have thought at length about the Constitution, pondered the intention of the founding fathers and the implications for the type of government we wish to have, you cannot really understand, although I'm sure you have the best of motives and your heart is in the right place
