I think the real answer is more gun education. People just buy the d**n things (yes, I own them, too) and don't know what to do with them, other than pull the trigger.

It bothers me to hear about gun programs being cancelled, too. They EDUCATE people about responsible gun use. When I was growing up, everyone had guns in the home and we KNEW not to touch them. Parents aren't teaching the children the healthy respect of them. Video games, that parents allow, don't show the truth of what happens when someone is shot.
