I said the very same thing to the family when this was reported on earlier in the week, wether queenie would come down with a case of lead poisoning.

The thing with our gold is that it is not all ours.. the wealth of Britain has always been divided amongst the rich.. and the kings where never the richest in the land.. which is why KAYs existed..

I worked for the BoE some years ago at KAYs.. KAYs is across the Road from the BoE and is now one of their buildings (subsequently been sold) but it stand for "Kings Arms Yard" and was where the King put his troops to try and strong arm the bank into loaning some cash for whatever the current adventure was.

Interesting building with a very very interesting history.

I know I will make a pigs ear explaining this, but here goes.. apologies in advance for the pigs ear..

Most people miss the point on whos' gold we have in our vaults.

Think on it this way, how much land in the UK is common land and how is privately owned, mostly by the same families for the last 1,000 years, well the same kind rules work with the gold.

There is a lot of gold in the UK, but only a minimal amount of that belongs to the commons.

While the power of a figurehead rests in the crown and the government, the real power and real wealth has always been elsewhere, which is why none of our kings and queens are amongst the most wealthiest families in the last 1,000 years of British history.

A good example of this is Warwick the Kingmaker.. Warwick held more power and wealth than the Crown, [link to en.wikipedia.org]

Then consider all the gold that came to these Isles down the ages, yet only a minimal amount ever went to the crown, the rest was kept in private hands.

So there is a lot of gold at the BoE but only a small amount is ours, and even then the buggers sell off what little we have.

In the 1780 (ish) a lot of the wealthiest families and guilds started to remove themselves from public life, so that by today none of their activities are visible, and we no longer know who they are by name, but they are still there and they still wield considerable power.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

So in that one room with not many shelves held half of all the UK public gold

And stached in other places is the very private wealth

There are rumor of 80 tons of what was shown is the near total OZ gold reserve for the UK to look after

When the states they have 300 ish tons of gold is that what they personal claim or the total gold that includes people that are stinkin rich and storing it
