seems normal to me. anyone who has gone through grief knows that when they are not thinking of the problem or are suppressing it, they are happy for a while. the moment the incident is mentioned again and it's in their minds, the grief comes back on. it happens to me all the time someone dies or something serious happens to a very important person or a shocking event.
