I agree with you, but I know the thought pattern because I have spent much of my life in the northeast amongst artists and graduates of those universities...

it is wishful thinking and it leads to tragedy over and over

just like the people who get a poisonous snake, tiger cub or a chimpanzee as a pet and then act surprised when the snake kills their child, the tiger mauls them or the chimpanzee rips their face off

Stupid question, but in an infinite universe, with infinite possibilites, yes I would absolutely do it! Though I presume it would only be MY rights and not yours.

People don't realize that the veneer of civilization is very thin, and most of history documents man's violence against man

One can either assume that mankind has changed, that we are now free from greed and violence, or that the same traits are still there, just below the surface

Arms are an insurance policy against that underlying nature resurfacing.

Given any breakdown in the rule of law, any rise in insanity due to financial stress or shortages, I can only think violent outbreaks will increase...just at a time that the local police may be cut or overburdened

Wasn't there just a California city - I think San Bernadino - which told the locals basically they are their own first line of defense now because the city is bankrupt and the police force is being cut?

What then, protect yourself with a slingshot or a box cutter?

Would you give up your rights to a GUN if you knew for certain that it would have saved those 20 Sandy Hook elementary school children?

If we could go back in time - and change the future - the only condition is: GIVE UP YOUR RIGHTS TO GUNS.

Would you do it?

I say: No, no I wouldn't. And that would be a painful decision.

Childish question and it's that one word that makes it so. You're asking for a nightmare to be changed with parameters. Not gonna happen and you should know better.

Grow up.

So you would rather have it so that the young and strong can terrorize the weak and old? A gun is an equaliser. It makes a 70 year old grandmother as powerful as a 20 year old gang-banger.

and yet no doubt Detroit will be one of the first to pass extensive gun bans and restrictions

what kind of cognitive dissonance is this ?

Govt to citizens message 1): You're on your own, police are broke and stretched and can't protect you

Govt to citizens message 2): Oh yeah, and by the way, you can't buy the very things which we have which could protect you... good luck figuring it out

No...you might save them for awhile, but in the long run, you just sold their last meaningful freedom down the toilet...

It's a HYPOTHETICAL question (meaning a "what if" scenario).

What OP is getting at is that hypothetically if you COULD stop those 20 kids from dying by going back in time & laying down your arms, would you?

The answer is supposed to be "YES", because anything to the contrary implies that you wouldn't trade a gun for the lives of 20 beautiful children who had a future.

Think about it that way. A peice of junk for a child's life. x20.

Heres what I would do:

Go back in time land in the class room closet.
Shoot this government patsy as he made it into the class.

Then what? I'm sure they had a backup plan just in case of course.
We were meant to live for so much more, have we lost ourselves?
