I've always been laughing and shaking my head over the years at all of these people on GLP who claim the sun has been rising and setting at the wrong times. I figured they were morons/morans who just finally started paying attention to what is going on around them.
After today, well now I'm not so sure.
I've been working from home in the upstate NY area for the past 15 years, and I am definitely an early bird. I've very well aware at what time the sun rises in the winter, because at that time of year I have to draw the curtains because for the first hour or so the sun is directly in my eyes.
Tomorrow is the winter solstice, meaning the sun should rise the latest it will during the entire year. During the winter the sun does not begin peaking above the horizon from my office window until around 7:40. Imagine my surprise today that before 7:30 the sun was already completely above the horizon!
I'll have to check tomorrow to see if that is consistent or a one-day anomaly. Our area being known for cloudiness does not help for day-to-day observations.
