See ya just have to understand the Rickster he is a self proclaimed NERD! In effect that means he finds it hard to reach conclusions. On the Right to Work bill at first he was NOT guaranteeing a signature and then he did. On this one he had indicated he would sign the bill and then he didn't. Oh my, what power the Kochsters possess these days EH!

The issue I heard on the radio earlier today--

Should teachers be armed or not?

Would you want your child in a classroom that had a teacher packing a pistol?

And how about if there was a crazed gunman on the loose heading to that room?
 Quoting: KoFFee_

What if it's a small older female teacher dealing with larger adolescents, who could possibly take the weapon? What about five of six of those adolescents at once?

Frankly I have my doubts about arming teachers. The teacher has other things to do, so much that he/she cannot adequately guard against the gun being taken.

Let's see. I am a nerd too so maybe I can explain him to you:

"Not guaranteeing a signature" doesn't guarantee that he won't sign, either.

"Indicated he would sign the bill" how did he indicate it? Did he ever talk about an exception so a school could ban guns?

I fully support just about any gun rights you care to name, but I think the main reason to allow guns is to keep the government scared and vulnerable to the people in the event of a "well-regulated" insurrection by the militia.

Schools are a really hard problem. Protecting children, as noted above, is NOT the main purpose of allowing guns. It's not obvious whether allowing guns on campus protects children better than not allowing them. What about a craxed teacher? What about students overwhelming a teacher and taking the gun? What about accidental discharge? On the other side of course is that Newtown might have been stopped if someone could have shot (accurately) the perpetrators -- notice there was more than one perp, so it would have been a firefight, one armed faculty probably would have failed. ESPECIALLY because it looks like a military or paramilitary operation.

Writing this helps me organize my thoughts, and my conclusion is that those pushing for guns in schools are off target. When has there been a "classic" school shooting, where it really was some deranged person, angry about something, who pulled out a pistol and started shooting students? Those are the cover stories but they keep getting debunked. This really does NOT seem to happen!

The goal of gun ownership in America continues to be the power of the people over the government. This is the most important, and it's clearly a good thing. Don't get distracted by the very difficult, two sided argument about guns in schools. Snyder was OK here.

As usual, this stuff with the wacky music is selling a wrong agenda.

Mental illness is not a good thing, but the idea isn't to allow more repression of people diagnosed with autism, or depression, or whatever.

The idea is that basically when a false flag is organized, it's going to succeed, so that is the price we pay for our "freedom" in Obama's words, and until we can get these damned people out of our government, the best we can do is NOT to OVERREACT.

As a member of a GOP County Executive Committee in Michigan I plan to submit a very detailed statement against Govoner Snyders action. This is absolutely despicable and not acceptable.

What is your feel for the MI state legislature? Could they override his veto or get a bill to him quickly that he would sign with the opt out provision he wants?
 Quoting: Resister

whatever happens, if Snyder signs a bill that allows an opt out....well the blood then falls on the hands of those that don't want someone in their presense to protect them (who opt out) if a lunitic comes there and shoots the place up.

CC people aren't the ones commiting mass murder....I would hope that Snyder realizes that.

putin good grief!!! arming a teacher would be teachers who would be 1- willing to have a firearm 2- go through the training to have that firearm.....its not about getto teachers arming themselves against their students...gawd!
Its about an intruder coming into a school who doesn't belong there and stopping them, if necessary with a gun.

and YA the teacher has other things to do - duh - teach!

but if some nutcase comes in the school what do you suggest they do...continue teaching? or pull their weapon and shoot the perp?

You can give all the WHAT IFS that you want...gun free zone will always equal free to KILL ZONE!!

Attention Michiganers!

For your safety, avoid:

schools, day care centers, churches and stadiums.

And all of detroit and flint.

That is all.
