I too saw bank meltdowns, bank holidays, the corruption of the military dictatorship, the BS of Collor and the other thieves in chief I worked to help wealthy Brazilians get their money out of the country after they prohibited the export of funds (we used the film business .... through an interesting loophole in the law) I saw hyper inflation ruin some of my mother's cousins, who went from middle class to struggling working class, barely living month to month My mother's sister married a well to do Argentine and my cousins were raised in BA in the suburb of Olivos, and I've had this discussion with them when Peron came back in power, when college students were disappearing (as they did in Brazil as well) No one is immune unless they have their own island and own military , or like the residents of Alphaville, they commute by helicopter from what is essentially their own country within a country I heard from family when they banned guns in Brazil. One of my cousins, who is into family history and lineage, had old muskets on the wall which were heirlooms...and he was outraged that they even demanded those old antiques And yet, despite the supposed complete disarmament of the Brazilian population, the level of violence in Brazil soared. I read a few years back that in Brazil violent deaths by guns rivaled those of a battlefield...similar to numbers and severity as the death rates in Iraq so tell me, how successful was that gun ban? Meanwhile, there are still massive numbers of people held up at stop lights, at stop signs at nght, of violent home invasions (even of apartments...in Salvador I read about thieves rappelling down from the rooftops to break into higher floor apartments in nice neighborhoods) Worse, often the police are in the pocket of the thieves, paid to look the other way as they gut a house of it's contents Without any means to defend oneself, people are left endless victims, waiting in vain for the government to step in and stop it |

This is for you ac 9952754: Thanks for your support yes, the problem is within people have increasingly become desinsitized to violence and the pain of others, they are becoming robotic and inhumane, incapable of empathy the problem is a de-evolution of man, of children raised like feral animals without the handling and humanizing presence of parents and grandparents during the critcal years...instead they are raised in front of violent boxes and raised by other children Brazil went from being a moral country (when I lived there in the 60s and 70s) to a country where Xuxa was teaching first graders how to do the "bottle dance" within a space of ten years It went from a place where most crime consisted of purse snatching at worse, to one where traficantes and their employees kidnapped people who simply left their car windows open driving home on a warm nght and the whole way the media was helping plant these images of the new 'normal' of extreme violence and loveless relationships |

We were concluding that maybe a 'filter' of some sort, perhaps at the school level - could be a potential solution. A way to enable a Mother or Guardian, Father or whomever the responsible parent whose job it is to 'register' their child to inform the Institution of "red-flag types of behaviors, BEFORE they enter the school to play with others. I realize there are many unsavory potential implications, but given that the system is broken, in that the only way to get someone the attention they need is if they have been in trouble and have a paper trail already... Let's say for example; your kid skinned the neighbors cat at the age of 10, or he/she is threatening your life at home. How about a series of questions to prompt an assessment for safety or something of the like? This is just an idea. There are a few very ill individuals that have committed horrible acts. Schools aren't the only location, and guns aren't the only weapon. An Artist is an Artist, whether or not you take away his brush. You can't take it with you - anyway. |
