What does Senator Feinstein mean by "not retroactively, but prospectively"?
Does she mean the ban (if it passes) will be retroactive?

Or does it mean that you can't buy new ones?

Confused a bit here.

Can anyone clarify?

Thanks

I'm confused by the 'leagl-speak' of her wording.

Does she mean that an assault weapon ban is retroactive? IE owners of them must turn them in?

it mean that the law will immediately criminalize the sale, transfer, manufacture, or possession once passed.

so if you get pulled over with an AK in the back seat... you're going to jail.

Ahhh... so it IS retroactive.

That may not go over so well in the U.S.

Interesting times ahead.

Let's hope it gets voted down.

if the house doesn't approve it, obama will end run congress on it, most likely with his 6,837th executive order.

I don't think most 'Merkans will like the "ban possession of" part.

It's basically a "turn 'em in."

We'll see I guess.

Agreed... they'll probably be a grace period.

Still, I think a retroactive ban will piss people off. I'm still not convinced they'll have much luck with it. But like you say if Obama EO's it...

That progressive (communist) sow Feinstein drools and feels empowered by the prospect of aware and armed citizens being neutered of their rights to self-protection and defending their way of life.

Look at the communist scum obama surrounds himself with such as criminal Bill Ayers, Frank Marshall Davis, Timothy Geithner, Van Jones, John Holdren, Cass Sunstein, Mark Lloyd, Carol Browner, Buffy Wicks, Andy Stern, Kevin Jennings, Jeff Jones, Carol Browner, Jon Bon Jovi, Sam Kass, Donald Berwick and let us not forget scum such as Reverend Wright. There is not one who surrounds and guides obama that is a patriot, who respects our constitution.

Review John Holdren who wrote books concerning forced abortions and Cass Sunstein who wants to eliminate free speech, Carol Browner who strives for global governance, Carol Browner UN Cap and Trade queen please look up these communist, socialist filth that have no regard for human life.

Or does it mean that you can't buy new ones?

Confused a bit here.

Can anyone clarify?

Thanks

It's just the old ban repackaged, with no future sales and what you have grandfathered.

prospective adjective abeyant, about to be, approaching, arranged, awaited, close at hand, coming, conceivable, considered, destined, earmarked, eventual, expectant, expected, foreseen, forthcoming, future, hoped for, imaginable, immediate, impending, in prospect, in store, in view, intended, likely, looked for, looming, on the horizon, planned, potential, preparing, projected, promised, scheduled, soon to be, soon to happen, subsequent, to be, to come, ultimate, upcoming
Associated concepts: prospective contract, prospective liaailities, prospective relief, prospective rights
Foreign phrases: Nova constitutio futuris formam immonere debet non praeteritis.A new law ought to affect the future, not what is past. Lex prospicit, non respicit. The law looks forward, not backward.

This is what's keeping me confused.

She said "not retroactively, but prospectively."

Kind of sounds like an outright possession ban, but I'm no attorney so I don't know.

Re: What does Senator Feinstein mean by "not retroactively, but prospectively"?
I saw an interview she did recently and the way she was explaining It (very vaguely I might add) made it sound like they would have to be registered as an "assault weapon" and/or a trigger lock of some sort would have to be installed. She said with this ban "assault weapons" would eventually be weeded out of city and towns. So I'm not sure about the possession statement. One minute she says Ben possession, the next she says register and trigger lock. I too am confused.
