I don't think there will be an assault weapons ban. Too many Senate Democrats from rural states are up for re-election in 2014 and would lose their jobs if they support it. A high capacity magazine ban has a better chance, but I think is still unlikely for the same reason.
On the other hand, I do expect passage of a bill that requires background checks on private gun sales.
