High capacity mags and these so-called 'assault'-styled (semi-automatic rifles - not assault rifles) firearms are not the problem. Evil whims are our problem.

1) Firearm safety in a some people's homes seem to be a major problem. Lock the damn things up! Especially if you have someone like her son around them.
2) Laws against people carrying concealed is a problem. I so wished that there would've been an nonuniformed guard at the school.

I'll bet unless there's a big push for firearm safety in this country crimes like this will be like they are - more and more frequent. Where did the charge for firearm responsibility discussion go? That seems to have been the problem in this case unless you go the conspiracy route.

Ask Kenessaw Georgia residents about their overall crime-rate (not just murder rates but all crime) after they passed a law mandating firearms in all homes and letting the thugs know damn near everyone (household) has a firearm to protect themselves with.

Evil is evil. Guns need a human trigger finger. Knives (used in the China attack) need human hands. Hell, murder needs motive or lunacy/evil. We will not stop evil but we can let evil know it's a suicide mission to attempt a murder by doing away with these laws restricting concealed carry. We as parents can keep our children safer by educating our children about firearms and storing them properly.

I cannot understand the statement Piers makes about removing certain styles of rifles and mags over a certain capacity. Will that reduce crime? Think about it:

The Ginsu-brand kitchen cutlery are just too damn sharp! Everyone must dull their knives if stored in the kitchen because the sharp ones have more potential to kill a victim if used by criminals. Ginsu knives and the like are now illegal. And you better not have the scissors that cut through a penny either - too damn dangerous if it 'falls into the wrong hands.'

Maybe that was a bad example but this is the sense I see Piers using.

Again, you are screaming that there needs to be a conversation yet you are throwing insults. Many are willing to have this conversation if it stays as one and doesn't lead to throwing wild insults within your first knee jerk response. I said drugs OR children. These things will rise in cities and tends to rise proportionality to economic hardships. I am not saying introduce an element either. In Texas and in the south in general you will find more guns. It's the culture. Up north we have em, but not as much, and we don't talk too much about it. If you got one you know and that's about it.

Rather then making it harder for law abiding citizens to purchase we should be focusing on the safety training and licensing to own and carry. You shouldn't be able to go in take a 6 hour course and walk out with a gun. First time buyers should have to register and with registration pay for their first safe. A license should require that you shoot and take courses proving you can handle a weapon safely and continue to practice carrying. I have always understood it from family who hunt up north to feed themselves that a weapon is a tool you treat with respect. If you conceal carry you always conceal carry and hope you never need to use but always have to concealed and safely secured and clipped.

You are right we are all going to have to adjust, but being disrespectful like Piers did in his interview and throwing insults when met with a differing point of view is not going to lead to the middle ground that will solve any problems.
