Apocalypse never: Newly discovered Mayan calendar further disproves doomsday myth
The world is not going to end on December 21. No, not even according to the Mayan calendar. And especially not according to the awesome newly uncovered Mayan calendar — the oldest known Mayan calendar in existence — which was recently discovered by Boston University archeologist William Saturno.

They never said the world was going to end!! Do your research and stop listening to the media. They said it will be a time of great change which they call the "time of no time." Nothing was ever said about the world ending but there will be major events happening during this time. Also, the WORLD has existed long before we humans were here. We could all be killed today by a meteor impact but guess what? The WORLD will go on only our existence will be gone. It's just common sense. Earth has had plenty of species go extinct and its doing just fine.

Re: Apocalypse never: Newly discovered Mayan calendar further disproves doomsday myth
Gotta take the opposing view. Just because the Maya wrote of dates beyond 2012 does not mean there isn't doom soon.

I do not think the world ends in 2012.

But I do think doom comes repeatedly, in cosmic cycles of thousands of years. Imagine if you knew it would come in 2012... and 8143... and 14274... etc. Ancient cultures are warning us that bad things start 12/21/2012. Much evidence, especially astronomical descriptions in the Bible, point to 12/21/2019.

Exactly seven years (of tribulation?) in between.

Nice red herring argument you idiot. The Mayans never said the world would end. Just like a NEW YEAR is the end of the LAST YEAR, so did the Mayans say that a NEW CYCLE would begin at the end of the LAST CYCLE.

"oldest calendar"
wouldnt we trust a newer calendar over an older one. Couldnt the mayans have learned something new and made a new calendar for it.
