Lostprophets star Ian Watkins arrested on child sex offence charges

The 35-year-old has been charged with conspiracy to engage in sexual activity with a female under 13 and possession/distribution of indecent images of children.

"In order to assist their investigation, South Wales Police has named the man as Ian Watkins, a member of the rock group Lostprophets."

Police added that two women, a 20-year-old from Doncaster, South Yorkshire, and a 24-year-old from Bedford, had been charged with "similar offences" and are also due to appear in court.

The lead singer of the group is facing a number of charges including conspiracy to rape a one-year-old girl.

A statement on their website said: "Following charges made today against Ian Watkins, we find ourselves in a state of shock.

"We are learning about the details of the investigation along with you."

Signed by "Jamie, Lee, Luke, Mike and Stu," it concludes: "It is a difficult time for us and our families, and we want to thank our fans for their support as we seek answers."

Ian Watkins, 35, of Pontypridd, appeared before Cardiff magistrates facing six charges relating to sexual offences against two young children.

He faces a charge of conspiracy to engage in sexual activity with a child under 13 and four offences relating to possession and distribution of indecent images of children.

Well, actually, you should look it up because they are saying that he did conspire to rape two children and one was around one years old. Also, it says that he was in possession of extreme beastility porn. I like the music of Lostprophets too and hate to think he did this. He is not guilty until it is proven but he is in jail now. I guess they have some pretty good evidence against him. I am hoping this isn't true.

If he's actually done it then i'd be the first to express my disgust - but it seems very strange/unlike guys like this.

Some of the articles mention 2 women who have also been arrested as 'conspirators' of rape. That doesn't sit well with me. Guys in rock bands don't sit around conspiring with their girlfriends to rape babies, i'm sorry I don't buy it for a minute.

Ian Watkins' Lostprophets bandmates have issued a statement after the frontman was charged with sexual offences against children, claiming they are "in a state of shock" over the allegations.

Speaking in a message on their official website, Jamie Oliver, Lee Gaze, Luke Johnson, Mike Lewis and Stuart Richardson said: "Following charges made today against Ian Watkins, we find ourselves in a state of shock.

Watkins appeared in a Cardiff court yesterday (19th December) where he was denied bail over the charges - which include conspiracy to rape a 1-year old girl.

The 35-year old faces six charges in total, including conspiracy to engage in sexual activity with a child under 13, as well as four more offences relating to possession and distribution of indecent images of children....."
