The governments black technology programs "may" already have the technology to get there. It's certainly not beyond the scope of what physics allows, i.e. bending of space time, artificial wormholes etc. When you do things right people won't be sure you've done anything at all |
Defj@m (OP) User ID: 7058546 United Kingdom 12/19/2012 08:20 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Interesting. Anyone know if this is the closest planet (in distance to us) that they've found with potential for life? Good question actually. I'm sure I knew the answer to this at some point but it's vacated my memory now! :( EDIT: I think it may well be according to a quick search: [link to en.wikipedia.org] Last Edited by Defj@m on 12/19/2012 08:22 AM When you do things right people won't be sure you've done anything at all |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 30288790 Wow! There'll be no question in their minds this morning as to whether there is intelligent life on this blue planet! Excellent point. We're pretty much done for already in the extra terrestrial community then. When you do things right people won't be sure you've done anything at all |

I was shown a WORMHOLE bigger than the EARTH a week ago connected to 21st Dec. This would place our planet in another universe and out of harms way and maybe put a squash on all these doomsday theories which are bull-shit. I was told the sound of a bell we be heard world-wide when t happens, the bell sound is OM. I have all the codes for such an event. Also no stars will be seen during what is known as 3 days of darkness, that alone suggests a wormhole transition |

I'm sure I knew the answer to this at some point but it's vacated my memory now! :( EDIT: I think it may well be according to a quick search: [link to en.wikipedia.org] The closest exoplanet to us (so far) is in alpaha centuri (si?) It's 4 light years away, and would take over or near 100,000 years to reach with current shuttle capability. However, with a major breakthrough is propulsion tech, we should hope to find a faster way to travel in the next 50-100 years. At this point, it is not an option. It is, however entirely logical to think that a breakthrough is right around the corner. We need better teachers, and more funding. With that, we could expect to see the tech needed to reach an exoplanet within our lifetime. Don't hold your breath though, I'm following those who work on the issues, and they're heavily underfunded, understaffed, and underappreciated. Cross your fingers, and hope that we value the science more in the near future. How In the world getting to another planet with possible life isn't the most important thing in our civilization completely perplexes me. Cross your fingers. And if you know a young boy or girl who is interested I. Space, please do what you can to encourage them now. We need more American children who stay interested long enough if we ever can hope to keep the space race alive. |

You figure they can see millions of years after the big bang took place, but can't see 'things' in our own solar system. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 22359037 United States 12/19/2012 10:52 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Snip: Quoting: Defj@m An international team of astroboffins have discovered that the nearest single Sun-like star has one planet orbiting in the sweet spot for potential alien life. Tau Ceti, which is just 12 light years away and can be seen with the naked eye in the night sky, has five planets in orbit around it, with one lying in the habitable zone. The potentially life-supporting world has a mass around five times the size of Earth, making it the smallest planet found in the habitable zone of any Sun-like star. The other four planets are between twice and six times the mass of Earth. "This discovery is in keeping with our emerging view that virtually every star has planets, and that the galaxy must have many such potentially habitable Earth-sized planets. They are everywhere, even right next door!" said Steve Vogt of the University of California Santa Cruz. "We are now beginning to understand that Nature seems to overwhelmingly prefer systems that have a multiple planets with orbits of less than one hundred days. This is quite unlike our own solar system where there is nothing with an orbit inside that of Mercury. So our solar system is, in some sense, a bit of a freak and not the most typical kind of system that Nature cooks up." Alpha centuri is the closest with planets but he was actually asking about planets with the potential for life I think, i.e. habitable zone. The closest one I found on wikipedia was 20 ly, apart from this newest one. When you do things right people won't be sure you've done anything at all |
