SUPERMARKET TODAY, VERY STRANGE
Its only 19th December today but there were so many perishable goods reduced in price, Christmas type goods such as cheese selection, berry selection. In date and could be used at Christmas.

I find this strange since shoppers would buy those at full price right up to christmas eve.

Re: SUPERMARKET TODAY, VERY STRANGE
it is strange, but I noticed the perishables were cheaper too. many of the frozen items were cheaper than usual. The chicken patties my kids like were a dollar cheaper per bag. I resisted the urge to buy alot of refrigerated or frozen goods this month.

Very strange because I've seen fruit, cheese, milk, and bread prices go through the roof in my area. I know I'm not in the UK but usually if it rises in our area it's MUCH high in the UK. Weird.

yes, that's why its weird. The prices were very high, they keep rising, but these goods were reduced with the special yellow stickers they put on when something is at the end of its shelf life, except that they were nowhere near the end of their shelf life.

Same thing here in Aus... My normal supermarket VERY rarely has much reduced stock, tonight they had cleared a whole section in the deli for all the reduced stuff 0_o
Seemed very odd to me, I noticed because I'm a bargain hunter and even though they normally have very little reduced I still keep an eye out just in case I see anything

what I found strange was that are still 6 trading days to Christmas, normally you would only expect those reductions on Christmas Eve

I thought exactly the same thing, supermarkets here are packed a few hours before closing on Christmas Eve so everyone can grab the reduced stuff. And same as you, it was all stuff that had plenty of days left. Very interesting!

Funny, I noticed all the Christmas decorations at Kroger reduced 50% yesterday - usually you don't see those mark downs until after Christmas. I thought it was strange.

SIMPLE

NOBODY IS BUYING ANYTHING.

I haven't seen anything discounted which first wasn't at full price here in Florida, so I'm just guessing they're catching on its cheaper to go have a full Christmas meal at Golden corral for 12.95 each, all you can chow down.grinning

Re: SUPERMARKET TODAY, VERY STRANGE
why stock up on food for christmas, when the world ends the friday before? ;)

maybe that is the reason. maybe "they" realized so many people can´t afford christmas shopping any more, and instead of then throwing away they reduce the food beforehand.

did not see any widespread reductions here. nothing unusual.
