To the people who believe the AR style rifle is for military use only, consider this:

The AR is a receiver platform onto which all sorts of attachments, barrels, and stocks can be attached. These can be awsome hunting and target guns. Check out any of the manufacturers and you'll find numerous cartridge selections and styles. The AR is the most popular rifle in America for good reason. These are not just locked away waiting for riots and home invations. They are used for varmit hunting, deer, wild hogs, sillouettes, long range target shooting, etc. But if needed, they can be used for defense. It's a very versitile machine.

Want to stop shootings? Remove the gun free zones where these shootings take place.

In urban areas gun ownership is lower (# per person) and generally have stiff gun control like Chicago, New York, LA, and DC. However, gun homicide is 3.8/100K ppl under 19. Whereas in rual America where gun control is limited and ownership high, gun homicide is 0.8/100K ppl under 19. Why is this? And does it indicate the effectiveness of gun control?
