Obama agrees to cut Social Security in fiscal cliff deal
Many of us have paid into social security all of our lives and we won't see a dime from it by the time we retire, nor will our children as the government continues to steal from this account to pay off other debts.

this is not "hope and change"...

Negotiations to avert falling off the ‘fiscal cliff’ before the end of the year have compelled President Obama to agree to cuts in Social Security payments.

With the chained CPI, Social Security payments would decrease over time, instead of going up with cost of living adjustments as they currently do. There are also tax increases associated with the chained CPI that hit low and modest income seniors the hardest.

A proposal to make the AARP squeal.

How about cutting welfare too? The welfare queens can quit dropping babies for fun and profit.

Social Security Retirement is NOT an "entitlement" It's an EARNED BENEFIT and an OBLIGATION of the federal government. We agreed to pay into the "SS Trust Fund" with "contributions" and were promised SS income for life after we reached the stated ages. The "Trust Fund" was stolen from and used by Clinton to balance HIS budget. The feds still owe us the money and must pay, or the government credit should fall from AAA to Junk.

The feds are already making exceptions to their own obligations, and withholding even student loans and child support from SS. When will it end? Regardless, it's their obligation and they'd better pay.

Welfare, on the other hand, is just a giveaway, with no contract involved.

Is it possible for someone to stop paying into social security and opt out of any benefits?

Only if they're working for a government or their own business.

I wouldn't worry about too much, There will not be much need for it after Friday

Actually that is one of the reasons I had in opening my own business.
Ecclesiastes 1:9-11
What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun. Is there anything of which one can say,“Look! This is something new”? It was here already, long ago; it was here before our time. No one remembers the former generations, and even those yet to come will not be remembered by those who follow them.
