Silver's Outlook for 2013

Yes, ETF's like GLD, SLV and this new copper ETF are merely price suppression mechanisms disguised as investment vehicles. There is NO price discovery in the marketplace today; the current system is specifically designed to NOT allow it, but instead allow for price management to a degree that few people would believe. But price suppression always fails, and when it fails in earnest in the silver market (the primary focus of the manipulators, for reasons that are beyond the scope of this post), the public will finally begin to understand that what they were taught was money simply isn't.

In 2008, I predicted that the silver price would reach $1,000 an ounce within 10 years, and I stand by that assessment. Learn the math, run the fractals, and the inevitability of what today would be considered stratospheric price levels for silver will be quite easily achievable in the absence of the omnipresent and powerful price suppression.

It's always hard to time these things, but I strongly believe that silver will blow past $50 an ounce next year and never look back. And within 5 years, the idea of $50 an ounce silver will seem as ridiculous as using colored pieces of paper as money.

While JPM et al continue to gouge those still hopelessly trading paper metal, we stackers delight in the opportunity presented to us again today.

“One of the things I wanted to talk to you about today was something I saw in Shanghai early this morning. Eric, I had to double-check, in fact I had to triple-check. We’re talking about the kind of divergence (in the physical market) now that’s unprecedented.

Today I looked at the opening premiums and there was a $2.89 disparity in silver. I’m not talking gold. When spot silver was trading in London at $29.61, silver actually traded at $32.50 (in Shanghai).

If you take an equivalent Comex contract, and I realize spot isn’t Comex, but if you take an equivalent 5,000 ounce Comex contract, that equates to a $14,430 premium per contract. I mean it’s ludicrous. There are reasons why you may or may not have a premium in Shanghai, but not to that extreme.

Shanghai (softened but) still closed at a $6,100 premium to equivalent Comex contracts. So what we’re saying here is that the divergence has now become ridiculous. I mean these high and low closing premiums literally illustrate the massive divergence between the paper market (and the physical market).

Funny, that. My modest stack of silver is pretty as ever, reems of dialogue about riding upwards hi-ho silver, yet there it is, pretty as ever impervious to opinion dancing in jerky centimeters like a brittle old lady with a cane year in year out.

Wider war in the mideast will mean the end of the petrodollar that is the current dollar peg signalling a new economic order. Silver would take off until the new dollar is in place, same as happened in 1970 with the London Gold Pool when the dollar was unpegged from PM and a new economic order was began, the petrodollar.

How the hell can people pay, on average, 6-10 dollars over spot?

let me say this first, I buy local....but

being off for the holidays, I hit E-bay...I figured with the drop over the last week I may find a deal or two....

hell no, on average everything that sold was, at minimum 5.50 over spot....with most falling in at the 6-10 range

SAE's were bringing $36-38 here in South Carolina on Saturday.....Haven't priced much Gold lately

I strongly suggest you avoid buying on E-bay; there's quite a bit of fake silver and gold being sold there nowadays. Find a good, local coin shop you trust or, failing that, places like Apmex and Tulving are reputable and can be used with confidence (if you're in the U.S.). As you can see if you go check out the Apmex site, ASE's are currently running $3 over spot. Paying $5.50 or more over spot doesn't make much sense.

I'm glad you find my post funny. A lot of people also found my advice funny when I told them to sell their U.S.-based real estate in 2005 and to short a lot of big financial names like Citigroup, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac in late 2007. Some of those people now pay me to manage their money for them.

No, I saw that, but I was trying to give an answer that would both help you and also help newbies who might not know much about investing in silver. Most people still know very little about precious metals investing, actually. You clearly don't fall into that camp, but I still hoped I could help out.

And GOOD advice at that!!

My local dealer only charges about $3 over spot so I use him (if he has SE in stock) at times he is sold out so I use APMEX only for those times I want to assure I stack then the price is low. I do hate to pay more than $4 over spot!

Got 3 guys I do biz with myself, ain't nothing like paying and walking out the door with it!

Do you ever buy any "Art Bar" type stuff...sometimes I see some at closer to spot than SAE's or Englehard, JM stuff?

So far, I mostly buy the SAEs - just love the quality and look. I did buy a few MS-70 proof ones, for gifts, not investments. Planning on heading to the dealer later this week for about 60 more!
