What happened to recent upsurge of Syria chemical weapons reports?

About a week or so ago there was widespread coverage in the mass media (MSM)that the military in Syria were activating some of their chemical weapons stockpiles.....that they were getting ready to use them on the rebels, and threats were made by Obama and other leaders in the west....that the use of these weapons would be seen as a sort of a tripwire for a response from western countries.....against the Syrian dictatorship of Assad.
Were these threats from the West successful in making Assads regime halt any use of these weapons?
I recall that the Syrian UN ambassador or Foreign Minister said that they were being 'set up' falsely.
Were these chemical weapons reports true.....or were they contrived.....as a mental primer for something that is coming down the tracks?

Everything has gone quiet now about this subject.
