Do you have to harvest it every year or can you let it be and it will come up year after year. I have some I let go last year and I didn't need it this year so I guess I'll let the little experiment continue. It came back up but I didn't check the bulbs. Does any of this make sense, I'm rambling. |

I refuse to buy mushrooms that are canned because they are from China. There was one brand with American mushrooms but now even they say product of China. Fresh mushrooms for me, I should check the dried ones or learn to gather wild ones. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 20757663 Is there any thing special needed to know to do this or just dry and grind? Would you share a bit? I'd like to make my own garlic powder. |

If there are 12 cloves on your bud you'll have 12 sprouts and they won't have room to grow. You can use them as green garlic in, sparingly cause it's strong tasting. Or better yet prepare a new bed and lift the bulbs, separate them in the early spring, soon as you can work in the garden, and grow them all. Give away what you don't need. If you're early enough getting to them, and give them lots of compost or similar food, they should make decent mid-sized bulbs. “I'm not upset that you lied to me, I'm upset that from now on I can't believe you”. I'd like to make my own garlic powder. when harvested we dry the Garlic in the out building for around 3-4 weeks,Then choose some to Dehydrate , After dehydrating we purchased a Coffee grinder and it grounds it up very nicely, Then add and mix in Sea Salt to your desired taste and you can even add some dried parsley,Basil or whatever you want and store in a sealed glass Jar....The difference in taste from store bought is pretty big. |
| Anonymous Coward User ID: 30346096 12/19/2012 04:18 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I started about 120 or so myself in the first week on November. I made 4= 2x2 squares of 2x6 lumber with thin galvanized fencing on the bottom lined with newspaper. Most of the medium is pearlite, vermiculite and some potting soil to keep it lite. My objective is to raise a large amount of seed for a new raised bed I will make in the early spring. Many dont know that you can start your garlic in the fall, let them get some size and develop root structure and plant them as sets, like onions in the spring, so you can get huge bulbs. I planted Georgia Crystal, Lorz Italian, Silver white and Elephant garlic, the later I bought from the grocery store and planted. Garlic is so easy to grow that I think only one clove has not germinated. The seed I was using for this came from this past springs container grown crop. No excuses, super easy to grow and very drought tolerant. |

| ehecatl the listening wind... the invisible spirit User ID: 32406897 01/22/2013 12:56 PM ![]() Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Must be almost a year ago that I started planting garlic. I have yet to have a single plant flower or produce a bulb. My other food crops have all gone through multiple growth and harvest cycles. I sometimes pull the whole plants up and chop them up and put them in a stew. There is something in the whole plant though, mildly toxic perhaps, to where I do not feel comfortable with more than one whole garlic plant added to a particular dish (for one person). |
