EARTHANGEL (OP) User ID: 67372 United Kingdom 02/07/2006 11:03 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Kundalini and the Holy Spirit There is not much awareness of Kundalini from within the Western paradigm. This lack of awareness in Western religious and spiritual circles has sent many people searching the Eastern teachings on the subject. Many have speculated that Kundalini and the Holy Spirit are the same thing. In the earlier stages of my ascension process, I used to think this was so, but as a deeper understanding grew through my experiences, I realized Kundalini represents only half the process, the Holy Spirit is needed to bring completion. In the following quote from the Gospel of the Holy Twelve, Jesus speaks of this two-step process: “By involution and evolution shall the salvation of the world be accomplished; by the Descent of Spirit into matter, and the Ascent of matter into Spirit, through the ages.” Kundalini is the energy of creation. It initiates in the etheric body and enters the physical body via the nervous and endocrine systems. The purpose of Kundalini is to balance the two physical polarities (male/female) within the physical plane of consciousness. When this happens, the person’s consciousness is expanded upward/outward into the spiritual plane of consciousness, thus merging the physical and the spiritual bodies. Kundalini is the 'Ascent of matter into Spirit' in the above quote. The Holy Spirit is spiritual energy which enters at the heart chakra and is the 'Descent of Spirit into matter' in the above quote. The Holy Spirit is an aspect of Grace, the unseen force that emanates from The Christ and permeates all of creation with the purpose of unifying, purifying and balancing. Grace is the purity of God as love itself; the Holy Spirit is its vehicle. Kundalini energy moves from the ‘bottom up’, taking our lower nature into the spiritual realms. The Holy Spirit moves from the ‘bottom down,’ bringing our Divine nature into our earthly existence. Kundalini is the first half of the puzzle as represented in the Eastern paradigm. Through transcendence we move beyond the physical/egoic level and into the spiritual realms where we connect to the entirety of our Earthly karmic energies (past lives). These energies are purged through the Kundalini process. This is the stage known as ‘enlightenment’. The mistake has been that mankind has regarded this as the ‘end of the line’, when it is not. As stated above, the Kundalini process is the ‘ascent of matter’ and represents only half the necessary experience. To embody love we must merge our human consciousness into Christ Consciousness and that occurs through the Holy Spirit. When the Holy Spirit enters the human mind-body complex, a new being is created. This is the ‘Christ Body’, an energetic presence that encases, fills and permeates the physical body. This is the ‘descent of spirit into matter’. Through the Holy Spirit, we receive wisdom, love and guidance. The Eastern paradigm for spiritual growth focuses mainly on transcendence of the earthly life, thus taking into account only the Kundalini energy and neglecting the necessity of bringing the Divine self back down to the physical plane via the Holy Spirit. Only when this happens, does total purification take place. This is why there is so much abuse among Eastern gurus; the vital ingredient of love (the embodiment of the Holy Spirit) is missing. The Western paradigm (Christianity) focuses mainly on the Divine energy as the Holy Spirit, not recognizing the Kundalini energy as the force that purifies the lower nature, thus making it possible to be united with the Divine self while in a physical body. The following excerpt from The Narrow Path: Revelations in Advanced Spirituality speaks of the differences between Kundalini and the Holy Spirit: Another area of confusion is that of Kundalini. Kundalini and the Holy Spirit are not the same thing. As discussed in Chapter 1, Kundalini represents the ascent of matter into spirit by creating the means by which the human consciousness of an individual incarnation merges into that of the soul’s entire individual experiences, thus clearing individual Earthly karma by merging the current and past soul experiences. This process expands the person’s consciousness from the physical plane into the spiritual plane. The Holy Spirit represents the descent of spirit into matter and is the means by which we enter into the Christ-stream of consciousness, thereby bringing the consciousness of The Christ into human physicality. Through this process, a Spirit or Christ Body is created, which merges the physical, etheric and astral bodies into one. The merging of these three bodies into one is the ‘ascent into heaven’. Rather than being sequential (i.e. one must pass through the Kundalini process, then through the Holy Spirit process), the new spiritual paradigm created by The Christ makes this one process. (That is, if one enters into the Christ-stream through the willing acceptance of The Christ as previously discussed.) The energy of the Holy Spirit enters at the heart. This is because the heart is the intersection point where the higher and lower aspects of man become balanced. When the Holy Spirit enters, it will simultaneously awaken the Kundalini if the person is ready. In my case, the Kundalini awakened twelve years after I received the Holy Spirit. If more growth is needed, the Holy Spirit will guide that person’s growth until the time it is possible to clear the lower bodies (the ascent of matter into spirit) and ascend upward. In contrast, when the Kundalini awakens without the Holy Spirit, it will awaken in the root chakra. This type of Kundalini awakening (common in the Eastern paradigm) results in only the ascension of matter. That is, the ego level is brought upward into the spiritual realm, but one is left feeling blank and empty because the Spirit/Christ Body does not enter to replace one’s sense of self. This is the state referred to in the East as ‘no self’. These are the types of Kundalini awakenings that produce the ‘horror stories’ in which the Kundalini process seems to go awry. I refer to this as biological Kundalini: the activation of the Kundalini energy without the descent of the Holy Spirit. Biological Kundalini occurs mostly in those who are within the Eastern spiritual paradigm or those without a spiritual focus of any kind. Rather than experiencing the infilling of the Holy Spirit which brings an elated feeling of love, spiritual understanding and guidance, they experience only energetic phenomena in the body and blissful states of transcendence. Those who experience these types of Kundalini awakenings have the most difficulty, physically, energetically and emotionally. Without the presence of the Holy Spirit, the expanded states of consciousness which accompany biological Kundalini do not bring love, wisdom, spiritual guidance and inspiration. Instead, the person is left feeling blank and empty, teetering between the two extremes of spiritual transcendence and physical density, wondering if they have ‘reached enlightenment’. I have noted, in my Kundalini research and in my years providing Kundalini support for people, the absence of any description of the Spirit/Christ Body among those with advanced Kundalini who were operating solely within the Eastern paradigm or outside of a spiritual belief system. While they did experience Kundalini, they did not simultaneously experience the integration of the Spirit/Christ Body into the lower bodies. This is not something one could overlook. This integration of spirit into matter was foremost in my experience nearly every waking moment. While the Kundalini feels like energy that is moving up and through the body, the Holy Spirit feels like ‘love energy’ that is moving in and down into the body. Kundalini feels as if it is lifting you up through transcendence. The Holy Spirit feels like it is expanding you through love and teaching you how to hold that expansion in the midst of a daily life. As previously stated, the Holy Spirit provides the descent of spirit into matter. Without entering into the Christ-stream, one only experiences the first half of the process (the ascent of matter into spirit). Without the infilling of the Holy Spirit, one is left feeling blank and empty, like living in a shell. This blankness is sometimes referred to in the East as ‘no-self’, which is aptly named because one has left behind the old (egoic) self and does not yet embody the Spirit Self. Without the infilling of Spirit, one is still susceptible to corruption by the lower energies within the Earth’s consciousness. The individual (egoic) lower nature has been purified at this point, but the planetary lower nature has not. This is why so many ‘enlightened gurus’ do very unenlightened things. The accounts of this are legion as, unfortunately, are the cases in which these ‘enlightened’ beings mislead the masses and become pawns for the lower forces that try to suppress the planetary light of Christ through the populace. The end result of a biological Kundalini activation (if it comes to completion at all) is hitting the ceiling of ‘enlightenment’ and coming under the control of the forces that control the spiritual ceiling over mankind (for more information about the spiritual ceiling, see The Narrow Path: Revelations in Advanced Spirituality.) Such has been the fate of many Eastern gurus, both knowingly and unknowingly. As previously discussed, one cannot receive the Holy Spirit without the willing acceptance of The Christ at the conscious level of the I. Therefore, someone who has completed the Kundalini process without the infilling of the Holy Spirit still has the opportunity to willingly enter into the Body of Christ and proceed to the next level. Kundalini and the New Earth On the new Earth, kundalini is unnecessary and won't be a part of the human experience. The purpose of the activated kundalini energy is to clear the soul's karmic energy which kept it attached to the Earth and it's lower nature. As a soul ascends to the new Earth, the karmic energies are cleared through Christ. Thus they are free of these attachments as well as Luciferic influence. In addition, the second chakra is the lowest level on the new Earth, therefore the kundalini mechanism which sprang from the root chakra has been bypassed and eliminated through the Earth's evolution. Solomae has intuited that during the next 7 years there will be an increase in kundalini awakenings. These awakenings will lead many astray as they will feel divine, but will be directed by the lower energies through the root chakra level which has now been cut off from Christ. For those with active kundalini who were also in the body of Christ at the time of the second coming, the Holy Spirit would have taken over the process, negating the need for the kundalini's completion. EARTHANGEL (OP) User ID: 67372 United Kingdom 02/07/2006 11:18 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | KUNDALINI ENERGIES Stretching back into the corridors of time, Asian religions have spoken of a mystical force called the 'Kundalini'. Throughout history many names have been given to this power. Orgone, esprit, loosh, prana, elan vital, and bio-electricity are some of these names. The rise of the kundalini is linked with a warm liquidly magnetic energy when it rises up the spine. Physical symptoms connected to the opening of the kundalini may include crackling noises at the base of the neck, and unexplained headaches - but be careful about attributing these symbols to rising kundalini energies. Often they have a medical cause that needs the attention of a physician. The manifestation of the Kundalini energy - frequency of vibration - links with the Sanskrit term 'Chaitanya' - the integrated force of your physiological, mental, emotional and religious bodies. Kundalini literally means 'coiling,' like a snake. Energy and consciousness - moves in spiraling motion - coils - loops - the snake. This is a metaphor for the spiraling energies of consciousness - which is our reality of thought and is explained by Sacred Geometry the loops are the loops of time - the slinky effect - time as an illusion played out in a physical game of polarities - duality emotions. In the classical literature of Hatha Yoga, kundalini is described as a coiled serpent at the base of the spine. The coiled and dormant 'feminine' energy, refers to the vast potential of psychic energy contained within us all. It is normally symbolized as a serpent coiled into three and a half circles, with its tail in its mouth, and spiraling around the central axis (sacrum or sacred bone) at the base of the spine. Kundalini can be described as a great reservoir of creative energy at the base of the spine. It's not useful to sit with our consciousness fixed in our head and think of kundalini as a foreign force running up and down our spine. The concept of kundalini can also be examined from a strictly psychological perspective. From this perspective kundalini can be thought of as a rich source of psychic or libidinous energy in our unconscious. [link to www.crystalinks.com] |

EARTHANGEL (OP) User ID: 67372 United Kingdom 02/07/2006 11:23 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The word Kundalini is derived from a Sanskrit word ‘Kundal’ meaning coiled up. It is the primordial dormant energy present in three-and-a-half, coils at the base of the spine in a triangular bone called the Sacrum. The Latin name ‘Os Sacrum’ suggests that it is a holy or sacred part of the body. The ancient Greeks were aware of this and therefore they called it the ‘Hieron Osteon’, noting that it was the last bone to be destroyed when the body is burnt, and also attributed supernatural powers to it. Egyptians also held this bone to be very valuable and considered it the seat of special power. In the West, Sacrum is symbolised by the sign of Aquarius and by the Holy Grail, container of the water of life. The Kundalini, which is to nourish the tree of life within us, is coiled up like a serpent and therefore it has been called, ‘The Serpent Power’. It has been described in great detail in the Upanishads. Kundalini Yoga is supposed to be supreme in all the Yogas. Guru Vashistha asserted that Kundalini is the seat of absolute knowledge. The awareness of the presence of this primordial energy Kundalini within the human body was considered by the sages and saints to be the highest knowledge. The Kundalini and Chakras have been vividly described in Vedic and Tantric texts. ‘God has made this human body a house with six Chakras and has established the light of spirit in it. Cross the ocean of Maya and meet the eternal God who does not come, who does not go, who neither takes birth nor dies. When your six Chakras meet in line, Surati (Kundalini) takes you beyond distortions.’ (Sri Guru Granth). Note that the seventh Chakra was not open at this time. In the Holy Koran Prophet Mohammed Sahib talked of the day of resurrection when he says that the ‘hands will speak’. ‘That day, we set a seal on their mouths, but their hands will speak to us, and their hands bear witness to all that they did.’ When Kundalini awakening occurs, a flow of energy in the form of cool vibrations from the hands is experienced, and the various Chakras can be felt on parts of the hand and fingers. In the West Christians called it a reflection of the Holy Ghost, and worshipped its manifestations as tongues of flames over the heads of apostles during the Pentecost reunion. Moses Moses saw it in the form of the burning bush. During the exodus the israelites lost faith and were smitten by fiery serpents so God told Moses “make thee a serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that everyone that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live. And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it on a pole, and it came to pass, that if a fiery serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived” An apt description of the healing quailities of the awakened Kundalini. Some of the Israelites even began to worship this symbol, and the practice of worshipping the brazen serpent on the pole as a god was either passed on, or was revived later. Bronze and stone serpent artifacts have been found in excavations in Canaan, Gezer and other parts of Israel! Jesus The Old Testament symbol becomes significant in Christianity when Christ suggests Kundalini awakening, not just for the tribe of Israel but as the true destiny of all Christians: “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even as the son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have eternal life” He says unequivocally in the Gnostic Gospel of Thomas and elsewhere, that ‘The Holy Spirit is My Mother’. ‘The Kingdom of God is within you’ (Luke 17:21). Tao In the Tao Te Ching the primordial power is described as that of a mother. Lao Tze described Kundalini as the “spirit of the valley” (in which flows the Nadi of Sushumna). The spirit of the valley never dies. The spiritual instrument within us can be described as a microcosm (miniature form of creation) which links us with the Divine. The ancient esoteric text “Scripture of the Golden Flower” also spoke of the effects of the awakened kundalini enerhy. Buddhist The Lord Buddha spoke of the “middle path” to achieve nirvana. He was actually describing the central channel (sushumna) through which the Kundalinii ascends. Later Buddhist masters considered that the existence of the path of liberation within a human being was the greatest secret. They transmitted it to only a few deserving disciples. Other Cultures One also finds symbols of Kundalini in many different cultural legacies, such as Mercury’s serpent which is an alchemical symbol for the process of psychic metamorphosis. The Gnostics understood the serpent to represent the spinal cord. In ancient Greek and later, Roman mythology, we find Asclepius, the god of healing. He is seen holding a staff which is entwined with a serpent (or sometimes two). Why did the Greeks relate this symbol to healing? The staff represents the central support of the human body or spinal cord (physical location of the sushumna. In Rome Aescaluius came tobe represented mercury who usually held a healing staff called the Caduceus. The one or two coiled snakes or serpents entwined around the staff, represent the kundalini which rises along the central subtle channel in a spiral double helical movement. Summary The Kundalini is there to nourish, to heal and look after and to give an individual a higher and deeper personality. The power of Kundalini is absolute purity, auspiciousness, chastity, self respect, pure love, detachment, concern for others and enlightened attention, to give infinite joy and peace to an individual. It is a turning to God even in the darkest times and trusting in God to make things right. This trust comes from knowing God and knowing that He is a good God who only wants to give His children good things. It is as Job said when he was experiencing some of the most difficult trials recorded in the Bible, “Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him (Job 13:15).” Once you have learned to put your trust in God you will no longer be afraid of the things that come against you. You will be like the psalmist and, “…let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee" (Psalm 5:11). I've seen some of these people walking like zombies daydreaming. I think is very dangerus the lifting up of the snake wrapped around itself and in that yoga procedure it seems the snake literally makes a hissing heard in our minds. The basis is sexual chakra while others say we must pay attention to the chakra of the heart. Christ had a private conversation with Nicodemus (John 3:1,2,14)in which he compared himself with Moses' copper snake (not bronze as translated very often in Numbers 21:8,9). We must remember in Hebrew in that text that is also a reference to SERAPHIM that is 6-winged-snakes with feet. In Genesis 3 -as explains linguist Michael Heiser- the adjective is transformed in noun for the bright shining snake as spiritual interdimensional creature forced to crawl. Hence we're dealing here with laws existing in the shape of seraphim creatures (like Chinese dragons) and also DNA twisted suggar ladder. Yet, Sitchin well mentions the Egyptian Book of Dead cos the helpers of goddess Isis also hold staffs WITH SINGLE SNAKE WRAPPED AROUND THEM just like Moses' UNIQUE copper snake. It's not only the fact Christ help as antiophidic remedy against the poison of the Dragon/Dragon/Snake but also something dealing with his birth (like Horus begotten by Isis) and THE MOMENT OF SEPARATION OF CHROMOSOMES when it's not like Caduceus but isolated snakes that eventually will gather together to form the new baby boy (in case o a girl the result only needs parthenogenesis or division of chromosome X into XX). Hence, what is not mentioned in this tread is the Kundalini here actually are 2 snakes: IDA and PINGALA. I've been doing psychic readings/healings for about 6 years now and just last year my kundalini has activated. My life is no longer what it was. I ended up in the (get this) psychiatric ward of a hospital twice...the first time when I went to do a reading and suddenly started having visions of approaching God and that he's wrapping up this project earth again because there are too many "weeds" alien energies here...the second time happened after a dream where aliens showed me New Orleans under water and then when a month later Katrina occurred I flipped out. It is unreal the voices and stuff I saw, visions of alien invasions occuring under the guise of an upcoming meteror shower and China invading U.S soil(and no, they didn't give me dates, I just pray it doesn't happen) and another massive tsunami hitting the west coast of the US and they even say they manipulate our weather...it's like playtime in the sandbox for them. I didn't even believe much in aliens until this stuff. Anyhow, I saw a psychiatrist and he has found nothing wrong with me...he checked around with other doctors and came up with a diagnosis of "kundalini psychosis," he says I'm not psychotic because I don't follow the pattern/history of ongoing psychosis nor bipolar disorder. He strongly recommended I not continue my psychic work or even meditate. However, I'm still having horrible voices and nightmares of events and I can no longer bring myself to do psychic readings anymore...hardly anything else either because I feel such a sense of doom. I believe in Jesus and the Supreme Being and am praying alot these days and crying too because the aliens, if these are aliens or maybe I really am just your average mentally ill person, they keep showing me horrible stuff...that we and our particular God (yes, there are other Supreme Beings in other universes-blew me away to see this because I never, ever believed that) keep making the same mistakes over and over again and that we're blowing ourselves up YET AGAIN...they showed me it's like the butterfly effect movie...God tries to fix this or that and the end result is always the same. This makes no sense to me because I always believed God was perfect. You have no idea what hell is until you having visions of this. On a physical level I have a deep burning sensation down my back, sweats, and constant headache. I obviously didn't get to the Christ consciousness/Holy Spirit part. Anyhow, my advise is be very careful of what you do on a spiritual level. It's very easy to get played with. And maybe say a little prayer for me. Thanks. |

Transformation through descent into the depths is a ubiquitous myth. Many cultures have myths of death and rebirth which explain the cycles of nature and the character of the afterlife. It is "another variation of the motif of the Hero and the Dragon . . . the Katabasis, the Descent into the Cave. . . . It expresses the psychological mechanism of introversion of the conscious mind into deeper layers of the unconscious psyche" (Jung, 1968, p.41). Here we examine the myth of Inanna, one which prefigured the Babylonian myth of Ishtar and Tammuz, and the Greek myth of Persephone´s kidnapping by Hades. The Myth The Descent of Inanna is familiar to the many contemporary [men and] women who have undertaken to journey into their own underworlds and have lived to tell the tale. That descent is a requirement of sovereignty, by which I mean the owning of one´s own self and life. (Worth, 1996, p. 38) As the myth begins, Inanna, the Queen of Heaven and Earth has already established a relationship with Enki, the God of Wisdom and Waters. He has gifted her with the fourteen me, or blessings of power, which she readily accepts, including: Truth! Descent into the underworld! Ascent from the underworld! The art of lovemaking! The kissing of the phallus! (Wolkstein & Kramer, p. 14, 15) Inanna opened her ear to the moaning of her sister Ereshkigal, Queen of the Underworld and abandoned her realm of heaven and earth, even her temples, to descend into the "great below". "With the me in her possession, she prepared herself:" (Wolkstein & Kramer, p. 53) placing her crown upon her head, beads of lapis lazuli around her neck, sparkling stones fastened to her breast (Henderson & Oakes, p. 102) , a gold ring around her wrist, and a royal robe upon her body. She bound a breastplate about her chest and took a lapis measuring rod and line in her hand. Then she set out for the kur, the netherworld, with her faithful servant, Ninshubur. When she arrived at the outer gates of the kur she commanded Ninshubur to wait for three days, and if she had not returned, to call upon the elder Gods for help. When Inanna challenged the gatekeeper to gain entry into the kur, he consulted with Ereshkigal, telling her that a giant and powerful goddess, arrayed in splendor and with signs of authority, was waiting to enter Her realm. Ereshkigal became upset, then told the gatekeeper to open each gate of the underworld a mere crack, and to remove Inanna´s royal garments on her way through. As Inanna passed through the first gate he removed her crown. At the second gate he removed her lapis beads; at the third, her sparkling stones; at the fourth, her breastplate; at the fifth, her gold ring; a the sixth, her lapis measuring rod; and at the seventh and final gate, her royal robe. Naked and disarmed, Inanna entered the throne room of her sister. Immediately, she was surrounded by the judges of the underworld, who ruled against her. Then Ereshkigal fastened on Inanna the eye of death. She spoke against her the word of wrath. She uttered against her the cry of guilt. She struck her. Inanna was turned into a corpse, A piece of rotting meat, And was hung from a hook on the wall. (Wolkstein & Kramer, p. 60) After three days, Ninshubur went to Enlil, God of Air, who refused to help, for the Underworld was not in His domain. Ninshubur went to Nanna, God of the Moon, who also refused to help, for he had no jurisdiction over the Underworld. Finally, Ninshubur went to Enki, God of Wisdom and Water, who originally blessed Inanna with the me of descent into and ascent from the kur. Enki was grieved and troubled. From under his fingernails he took dirt and created two creatures, neither male nor female, and gave them the food and water of life to carry to Inanna. These creatures snuck into the kur like flies, slipping through the cracks in the gates. They entered the throne room and found Ereshkigal lying naked and unkempt, moaning "Oh! Oh! My inside!". Following Enki´s instructions, they also moaned "Oh! Oh! Your inside!". Again she moaned "Ohhh! Oh! My outside!" To which the creatures replied "Ohhh! Oh! Your outside!" She continued to moan out her agony and they continued to name her pains back to her. Finally, she stopped moaning and blessed the creatures, offering them any gift they desired. They asked for Inanna´s corpse, and revived her with the food and water of life. Inanna then arose and ascended to the upper world. Commentary At the beginning of the myth, Inanna has been prefigured to descend into the underworld. It has already been named as her destiny by Enki. Inanna, as Queen of Heaven and Earth, represents the ego, the conscious ruler of the known psyche. And yet, it has been foreordained that she must experience the depths, that the underworld awaits her. A periodic lowering of the mood is a natural part of human existence. Life is full of cycles, and human affect is not immune from them. The healthy course is for people to experience a lowering of mood, a turning inward, a contacting of unconscious depths, and then to return to "normal" functioning. A depressed person, however, has lost the ability to return, and feels trapped in his own personal kur. The prophesied result of Inanna´s journey through the netherworld is that she will gain Truth and the Art of Lovemaking. In one translation, Inanna is frequently referred to as "the pure Inanna" (Henderson & Oakes). In her purity, she is a child of light, lacking the experience of darkness. She has no Truth, only naiveté. Without the knowledge of their own unconscious depths, a person cannot be an intimate lover. Real love, empowering intimacy, can exist only between people who have each experienced their own depths and discovered that in the depths, they each partake of the same material. This experience makes a true sharing possible. Thus, descent is a prerequisite to mastering the "Art of Lovemaking". The descent begins when Inanna hears the moans of her sister, Ereshkigal, the Queen of the Underworld. The conscious mind hears something stirring, something related but rejected, consigned to the darkness. Ereshkigal is the shadow consciousness, that repository of everything rejected by the ego. But the shadow is more than just a collection of ego jetsam--it also includes "the insufficiently developed functions and the contents of the personal unconscious" (Jung, 1953, p. 66, note 5). The "pure" ego must be reunited with the undiscovered and rejected psychic contents in order for integration to occur. Enthralled, the ego must descend, must harken unto the cries, abandoning everything in this quest, risking all. The descent is not made naked, however. The ego insists on defending itself with all its conscious powers. Inanna dons a crown, representing intellectual functioning, the power of "being in her head". She places a circle of beads around her neck. The circle is a symbol of eternity and of the womb--she claims the power of eternal creativity. She fastens sparkling gems to her chest, pretty, "nice", positive feelings to protect her from the underworld. She places a gold ring around her wrist, a symbol of her power to act. She takes her lapis measuring rod in her hand, her critical ability to judge. She armors herself with a breastplate for protection, and covers herself with a royal robe. The armor is whatever psychic defenses and walls a person casts up to protect themselves from others. The royal robes make a nice analogy with the persona, the ability to look good for others. Thus arrayed, she set out for the depths. The meeting with oneself is, at first, the meeting with one´s own shadow. The shadow is a tight passage, a narrow door, whose painful constriction no one is spared who goes down to the deep well. (Jung, 1969, p. 21) At first, Inanna cannot gain admission to the underworld. When the gatekeeper finally allows her to enter, he narrows the gates so that she must abandon all that she had depended upon for her safe journey into the underworld. At each gate she can barely squeeze through, it is almost as if she is repeating a birth process. Seven times she passes through a gate and seven times she abandons an implement of her power. In descending into the depths, the weapons of consciousness become impediments. The work of descent cannot be done by the well fortified, but only by the vulnerable, by the helpless and disempowered. At the first gate, she must leave her intellectualizing behind. At the second gate, she must quit relying on her cleverness and creativity. At the third gate, her niceness must be surrendered. At the fourth gate, her armor; at the fifth, her ability to do; at the sixth, her critical judgement; and at the final gate, her persona is stripped away from her. She enters the underworld naked and helpless as the day she was born. In this vulnerable state, she faces her sister, her shadow self. Unprotected in the depths, she finds herself judged and crucified, left putrifying hanging from the wall. This is the depths of depression. Self judgement and despair, everything turns to shit. Alone and in the darkness, Inanna decomposes. The depressed person is often left with a sense of hopelessness, feeling as if nothing they can do will alleviate their misery. They can only hang around in their own private hell and rot. All is not lost, however, for Inanna´s faithful servant seeks help. In depression, the person does not cease functioning. The client´s mood is lowered, but they still live, still remaining conscious. Ninshubur, Inanna´s servant, is that remaining consciousness, the part of the client who is willing to seek help, to take some action, no matter how small, to solve the problem. Ninshubur first goes to the Sun God, but gets no help. Power and enlightenment are not what will rescue the descended consciousness. Then, Ninshubur goes to the Moon God, and gets no help. Neither mystery nor emotion, nor even the personal unconscious can solve the situation. Finally, Ninshubur goes to Enki, God of Wisdom and the Waters. Enki is troubled, but he has a solution. He scrapes the dirt from under his fingernails and creates from it two genderless beings to solve the problem. The solution to depression lies not in great intellectual power, nor in great emotional power. It comes from Wisdom, which encompasses all of the psychological functions. Enki takes action--and he is a God of action; note the dirt under his fingernails. He is also the God who predicted, who arranged for this situation. Wisdom accepts the descent into darkness, knows that as unpleasant as it may be, it is necessary for completion of growth. When the beings the Enki created arrive in the underworld, they do not confront Ereshkigal in a power struggle for Inanna. Instead, they listen to her moans. They hear her pain and they name it back to her. This is the action of Wisdom. Depression begins to heal when the hidden pain is named and honored. This continues until Ereshkigal feels relief. She offers the creatures anything they desire, and they request Inanna´s corpse. They revive it, and she returns to be Queen of Heaven and Earth. No longer is she pure delightful lightness, for she now knows pain and darkness. She has experienced them for herself. The Wisdom which originally orchestrated this descent into the underworld has also arranged her return. After she made the passage through the narrow doors, Inanna encountered uncertainties for which she had no preparation. All her tools had been stripped from her. But Enki, the power of Wisdom and the ability to "go with the flow", brought her through. But one must learn to know oneself in order to know who one is. For what comes after the door is, surprisingly enough, a boundless expanse full of unprecedented uncertainty . . . it is the world of water. There is some truth to this. Intent is what it seems to be about. This is very weird but that spoke to me. Some of my visions/voices or whatevers are of me having a "psychic twin sister" and she keeps telling me that everything is my fault, that I am stuck in a karma loop, that I am damned and that I need "to die for her" in order that humanity may have peace. I had the wonderful experience of experiencing the many times I've lived this exact same lifetime with different outcomes and none of them were pleasant. Each time I will not allow myself to die and thus the cycle continues. 70999 (crazy woman) |
