Dust storm in West Texas north of Lubbock has caused a 23-car pileup on I-27, resulting in 1 fatality and 17 injuries. Winds sustained at 30-40 mph with gusts to near 70 mph!

We were getting nailed here in New Mexico before I came into Starbucks. 60mph winds here they said.

iam east of lubbock and heard they shut down i-27 north and south bound lanes.

has it ever looked like this before? what is the norm?

Yep, the entire south plains area is getting it. I've been in Lubbock for nearly 15 years and this is one of the worst wind storms I've seen. We've had worse dust storms, but they typically don't last this long. The last month has seen a lot of wind, but little to no precip which only makes the blowing dust worse.

Strange. West Texas used to be the equator 250 Million years ago. A galactic cycle/galactic year is 250 Million years. Perhaps the poles are about to relocate back to their "other" position.

Correct. I-27 is shut down in both directions due to zero visibility. The access roads are open, but TexDot is escorting the traffic due to the extreme conditions. All local TV stations have been running no-stop coverage for several hours at the request of the DPS and TexDot to help to discourage travel throughout the South Plains and Panhandle. Flights in and out of LIA have either been cancelled or delayed indefinitely.

Heavy snow here in Omaha......under blizzard warning till noon tomorrow with 50 mph winds from the North expected later!
