Hope you had a Merry Christmas. Mine was peachy. Just west of your little 1.3 is Area 51. There was a 2.5 today at 4:00. Right at the bottom of the runway. Followed by a 1.6 There's a slow, little swarm SE of area 51, And a slowly-growing-every-day- swarm Just east of Death Valley. I've been watching that one... It's as if it migrated from the Just-above-Ridgecrest-swarm. Madigan, Hope all is well! I had a nice, peaceful, quiet Christmas thanks! Quite a break from all the company since Thanksgiving. Have been tied up a bit with a project. I noticed some periodic activity, but not like the swarm which prompted this thread. But I am more than just a little curious to what would prompt the activity that we saw last week, and the variable locations and shallow depths! More than a few of those could have been precursor to a much larger incident. I am on my system, working from my home office today. I will keep my eyes open on second monitor, and watch for updates here as well. |

There's another little swarm that has been going for a while north of Vegas. It seems to get one daily. [link to www.seismo.unr.edu] Zoom out and you can see the cluster there north of Vegas. |

It is now near Mina, which is just south of Hawthorne. Zoom out here to get a good idea of the location. [link to www.seismo.unr.edu] 1.8 2.2 2.0 2.6 2.1 So far this morning. |

I wonder if the farallon plate is scraping up more under NA EDIT: started fault block, but now that I look at stonewall end again, it looks volcanic there. Nevada is riddled with short fault lines. They just cover the entire state and run north south with all the mountain ranges. I talked to a seismologist during the Hawthorne swarm when a lot of us were wondering if the quakes were harmonic out of the Long Valley caldera....being that the swarm was so close. Turns out no, Nevada is just becoming more seismically active. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 26836006 United States 01/27/2013 04:16 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I noticed this earlier before I went to work, but I wasn't sure if it had just started or what because I had to scoot.. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 29787375 Yeah, just right out there next to the highway. I've been trying to figure out what this dotted grid Is at the base of the mountain. Right next to the swarm, Just northeast of it. If you zoom in on google maps you can clearly see it. Also one further down the highway. Something to do with mining? No road to it though. A reference/visual for aircraft? Excavating for water wells? I'm at a loss. Those government bunkers do not dig themselves out. A little blasting helps...and by government order it is covered up. Old hat now. Your taxpayer dollars at work...for the special ones. |

Go to [link to quakes.globalincidentmap.com] Quoting: Zaphenath-Paneah Slowly zoom in on swarm area, as well as look east from there, until you see the air field. (You must look in Hybrid View/Satellite ..... Let me know what you see in those stills at that airstrip. You got me. Not sure. What do you see? From where the current EQ swarm is...head east a few hundred miles look for the area that appears to be an airport. It is not. Is is not even paved. Yet there are attack aircraft staged all over the strip. Look around some more and you will see some unusual things. Namely the road into a cavern.... underground air storage...protect the war crafts...makes perfect sense. Digging out new quarters for pilots etc. At least people have jobs. |
