It is caused by a shadow that is cast as the sun sets to the west of the doppler sites. Totally normal. Quoting: TheGasManII thats boring though lol :) i remember hearing that before its the official explanation i forgot about it lol Sheep the moon |

Quoting: TheGasManII It's still seen on the radar over west Texas/Mexico border and the suns been down for a while. I just took a peek again at the radar. Every so often over the Houston/Clear Lake area there is a loud "whistling" sound but it's cloudy so we can't see the sky. |

| Anonymous Coward User ID: 25148952 12/19/2012 10:20 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Ok, so right after we saw these streaks flying by on radar, now a friend wrote on her facebook that the winds was suddenly gusting like crazy. Next thing I see a thread about this strange wind pattern that looks like a vortex. I say these two threads are certainly suspected of being related in my view. [link to hint.fm] Look at the vortex!!!! |

The radar beam intersects the sun and causes the radar spike. If you notice, the angle of the spike is directly towards the sun when it's close the horizon. The opposite happens in the morning when the sun rises in the east. |

It sounds like what is common on weatheronline radar though. From what I understand , most of which is forgotten, they are frequency beams. They are generated and affect the heating and cooling, strengthening, weakening and movement of weather systems. I think they are generated by specific kinds of transmitters ( more than one kind as I recall). that fire off in sequence giving the impression of a long path of tracer lines traveling in a direction. And yes this is computerized and symchronized. They show on the weather radars, like nexrad. They can be generated by another system onsite or nearby and are picked up by the weather radar receiver as the signal produces a radar return signature in the signal field of the weather radar. A similar example last year was a "flash ring" that was around Minot ND a lot of the time. It was generated from a nearby military base. the center of the filed, the transmission point, was the base. |
