There are marine fossils at the foot of mount Everest. Has nothing to do with water level. Mount Everest was pushed up from sea level by plate tectonics. Any good geologist will tell you that... Quoting: Anonymous Coward 30781842 I don't think any published geologist would tell you that. And if you were to try and reproduce the calculations within the body of plate tectonic theory to model the uplift you would find the mechanics of the theory cannot provide enough energy for such an uplift. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 961432 So how do you think mountains are formed? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 30568477 Ah, now that is a question. Personally, I think the major mountain ranges were formed by cataclysmic events. In particular I think the major force or energy provided into the system as a catalyst for the changes were comets. In particular comets that come very close to our earth or other planets. As the comet passes by its gravitational attraction grabs the crust of the earth and induces a wave in the crust similar to a wave in a body of water from an initial moment of imparted energy. These waves traveled at hundreds of feet per second and included thousands of feet of the earth's crust. As the energy of the wave imparted decreased in amplitude corresponding to the passing of the comet, the waves attenuated and subsided leaving the mountain ranges we see today. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 961432 LOL! Utter
