You are on the right path. But, you misquoted the reporter. He asks, "Did the gunman shoot himself with the rifle?"

To which Dr. Carver instantly replies, "No."

And, then quickly recants(after being prompted by someone standing near him, maybe?), obviously miffed at himself for saying "no" so quickly as a reply,
"I don't...uh...I don't know yet...uh...I....I...I'll examine him tomorrow morning."

He gives a firm, resolute, "No" as his first answer.

Then quickly backtracks, and says he does not know yet, and fumbles for a reason why.


Has any reporter followed up on this question? It has been a couple days since this interview was given.
