Re: Russell Brand Interviews Westboro Baptist Church
Westboro simply draws the logical conclusions one must reach if we take the Bible at least semi-literally.

I'm sorry, but I respect WBC. They are real Christians. They don't back down. They stick to their dogma. They stick to their doctrine, no matter how whacked out it is.
 Quoting: Super Bowl Dave

So their doctrine is 'whacked out' but they are 'real Christians'?

huh
 Quoting: ANHEDONIC

All religion is whacked out.

Why do you display such hatred?? Oh nevermind I looked at your avatar and easily figured out why. Time is short, turn from sin and accept Jesus as Lord today.

Why are you displaying such guile?

Disapproval and disgust don't equal hatred, I disapprove of shoplifting, urine stains etc, doesn't mean I hate them.

Not for nothing ... all you homo haters that agree with Westboro or are flagrant Christians, why is it that Jesus said to bring all the children to him because they were innocent? Yet, the crime committed was against children. I'm so sure the "Jesus"/"Christian" view is to kill kids in the name of God after Jesus said they were innocent.

You religious assholes that bastardize everything are so hypocritical it is pathetic. 16 years of religious studies, and I can tell you that 99% of you dingle berries are ass backwards. Jesus never started Christianity dipshits. Jesus taught to be a GOOD person. Muslims behead people, and Christians kill children ... all in the name of what God wants. GROW UP ASS CLOWNS! If God is going to save anyone, you people are not it.

He said 'It is not meet to cast the childrens bread to the dogs', when some pagan tried to use him as a miracle vending machine. He called people 'dogs', he threw the money lenders out of the temple, clearly Jesus wasn't here for everyone, not did he claim to be. Take your greeting card Jebus elsewhere, that's now how it works.

Re: Russell Brand Interviews Westboro Baptist Church
How comes they ALWAYS quote the part about laying with man (which incidentally is translated wrong and it actually says not to sleep with male prostitutes)

But they don't read the next bit about not wearing mixed fibres ?

If one part is so important they have to hold signs up about it then how comes another part isn't?

Surely the church should have signs saying "GOD HATES POLYESTER AND COTTON MIX!"

ffs.... idiots

Pagans can believe whatever they want, they can't however impose their beliefs on others as undisputed truth or righteous or good.

I guess he was successful in making them look stupid, which isn't that difficult.

How arrogant to think that you know who is going to hell!

If God hates just the sin, and not the sinner, then why does the sinner get thrown in hell and not just the sin?
 Quoting: Needles Eye

How do we know that is not how it works? The bible says:

Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the finer.
 Quoting: zenobiaphobia

precisely.

hades is a place of purification, not eternal damnation
 Quoting: Salt

That's not biblical. You are proclaiming a false doctrine.

And if your hand or your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it from you; it is better for you to enter life crippled or lame, than having two hands or two feet, to be cast into the eternal fire," (Matt. 18:8)

"And these will pay the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power," (2 Thessalonians 1:9)

"Just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities around them, since they in the same way as these indulged in gross immorality and went after strange flesh, are exhibited as an example, in undergoing the punishment of eternal fire" (Jude 7)

"And the devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are also; and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever," (Rev. 20:10)

These men are those who are hidden reefs in your love feasts when they feast with you without fear, caring for themselves; clouds without water, carried along by winds; autumn trees without fruit, doubly dead, uprooted; 13 wild waves of the sea, casting up their own shame like foam; wandering stars, for whom the black darkness has been reserved forever," (Jude12-13)
 Quoting: Needles Eye

These are unfortunately lousy translations.

The Lake of Fire (Gr. Limne ho PUR) is a PURification process.

The false Hell doctrine, a spin off from Dante was created be the false church system to compel compliance.

The 'eternal' doctrine is a misunderstanding of the Greek aion and aionion which means 'age-abiding' not forever.

These Westboro folks get some parts right but miss the Christian litmus test of 1.) Do I love God by doing what I do and 2.) Do I love my neighbor by doing what I do.

Being Homosexual is NOT a sin. That is, unless you act on your urges. Heterosexuals are held to the same standard.

Well said and very Interesting.

I have used those exact same words/concept for what I call Christ's two commandments. I do the same, if a passage in the bible seems to contradict these commandments then it follows that it must either be mistranslated or I have misunderstood its meaning and purpose. For those statements form the basis for the Law and Prophets (according to Christ himself).

I have argued with other Christians about the concept of hell before. I have always maintained that either we don't understand it or no one is actually going to go.

An eternal hell presents a contradictory problem for other doctrines in the bible. To illustrate lets compose a thought experiment. I am the father of a son, whom I bring up Christian morals. I believe in Jesus Christ I die, I go to heaven. My son falls away, becomes an atheist and denounces the concept of Jesus on his deathbed.

How am I consolable existing in Heaven knowing full well my only son exits in hell. Either heaven is not void of weeping, inconsolable souls longing for their loved ones. Or my son cannot go to hell. The idea of living in paradise is contradictory to idea of living knowing your loved ones are perishing in utter agony in hell. You are left with the following very large issue:

Either Heaven is not Paradise or Hell is not Eternal.

It is simply inconceivable for you to Love your neighbor as yourself and for you to go to a paradise where that same neighbor is perishing in agony.

It is for that reason I have always thought the doctrine of Hell must mistranslated or misunderstood in some way. Or perhaps Heaven is misunderstood and we get to weep for eternity for our loved ones.

If they don't repent then they die in their sin. If they repent they are free from it. Jesus paid the price for sin on the cross, so if you repent you are free
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 22974002

Isn't lack of repentance a sin? If lack of repentance is a sin, and God loves the sinner and not the sin, why do the unrepentant get thrown in hell?
 Quoting: Needles Eye

Maybe I'm making things confusing... He loves all His people and wants them to obtain heaven, but people have free will. If they don't want to repent they die in their sin that they did, if they do repent they are free. If a person is unrepentant, then it would appear they love their sin and essentially choose hell themselves.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 22974002

OK, so people have free will, and they CHOOSE for God to throw them in hell? If they choose, why does God THROW them in? If they have true free will can't they CHOOSE to not be thrown in?

Revelation 20:15: If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
 Quoting: Needles Eye

People have the choice to sin or not to sin, if they choose their sin and refuse to repent they die in their sin and God's judgment is hell, thus one would be thrown in. God is a holy God and there is no sin in Him, but Jesus Christ took on the sins of the world and paid the price on the cross so that we can be forgiven and free from sin and made spotless so we can obtain heaven.
