Yah it is great to hear that someone in the community wants to stand up and do something about all this it warms the heart! but another part of me thinks something isn't right about all this... I smell a psyop. Maybe to get people used to the idea that government/military should step in for the community when the police fail to protect the people. Odd that an armed officer wouldn't be on guard at all times instead of this unarmed concerned parent. Think about it.

A friend of mine suggested that to me yesterday. She said we should ll volunteer to walk the halls, etc.

Thing is, we then would all have to have background checks. Would we be more of a solution or a problem?

Well as a citizen you can be anywhere until asked to leave. I do not think you would be asked to leave for doing this. Here is the question at hand are we going to let these people carry a firearm? If a guy shows up with an AR-15 this will just be more people for him to shoot, not that anyone would care to protect their child. If he has a 100 round drum tackling him while he reloads isn't an option.

A former Marine and father of two decided to help ease his daughter's fears after the tragic school shooting in Connecticut late last week by standing guard outside her west Nashville school.

Jordan Pritchard served eight years in the Marine Corps and was honorably discharged last May.

Over the weekend, Pritchard said his daughter told him she was scared to return to school following the Connecticut tragedy.  

"As a dad, I can't have that. I can't have my daughter come to school worried about somebody coming in and hurting her," Pritchard said.

He added, "To settle her peace of mind, who better than her dad to come out here and stand in front of the school?"

Pritchard told Nashville's News 2 he dusted off his Marine Corps uniform and has been standing guard in front of the school since Monday.

Schools shouldn't have to have armed guards. My heart is breaking for this world and for the children in it.

Are you aware that the shooter was home schooled in his later years? Sad.

What a great idea. How about all you retired military and police officers dust off the uniforms and show up out in front of your kids or grandkids school to stand post.

If you don't have a CHL...get one so that you are packing heat.

Wouldn't it be great if it went nationwide.

As far as the civilian fathers who want to stand post....just ask the school is you can stand watch outside the front door of the school and see what they say.

Offer to do a background check, get a CHL and let them know your offer is simply for security.

I just want to say this, been thinking it over.

A lot of gestures Americans make like this often come across as overly dramatic and somewhat cheesy to us godless foreigners... but that's just the American way, big, bold and brash.

Dramatic and symbolic...

That's just how you guys express yourselves.
Sometimes it's too much but seeing this story I think maybe in other countries there are too little of these big expressive gestures sometimes.

I mean, this man will likely never have to actually do anything, the school will likely never be attacked or whatever... but that's not really the point is it?

It's a symbolic gesture... and dude I tell ya, if I was there I'd stand shoulder to shoulder with him (or likely head to shoulder, he's prolly a big guy).

All I can do is express my solidarity with you yanks at this time of deep pain, I feel genuine anguish at this tragedy.
