Michigan schools cancel classes due to potential threats and end of world rumors

"Our communities are anxious, parents are concerned about the safety of their children, there are rumors that have multiplied as a result of social media, and there are threats within local districts that bring pause as to whether conducting classes would be appropriate. We have discussed information from local law enforcement, the realities of being able to investigate every threat, information related to district sensitivities, and our concerns about whether a normal instructional day could be achieved."

Schools across the area are taking precautions against rumors that some students plan to bring weapons to school Friday in conjunction with the end of the Mayan calender, Johnson said previously.

'Student revolt' threat affecting schools in Genesee County

About a half dozen Genesee County school districts are dealing with a bizarre internet rumor of plans for an armed ‘student revolt’ this Friday.

Earlier today, Grand Blanc High School was locked down briefly, after a student texted a parent that ‘shots had been fired at the school’ and he was hiding in a closet. The text was discovered to be a hoax.

OBAMA CUT SCHOOL SECURITY PROGRAMS


Two Justice Department programs that had provided more than $200 million to schools for training, security equipment and police resources over the last decade weren't renewed in 2011 and 2012. A separate program that provided $800 million to put police officers inside the schools was ended a few years earlier.

Obama stood before America the day of Newtown shooting implying he was going to ban guns.

HOWEVER, Obama failed to mention that He eliminated the Readiness and Emergency Management for Schools (REMS) in his 2012 budget. The program provided annual grants to help schools create emergency crisis preparation and prevention plans for events like the Sandy Hook Massacre.

LOL, I've got to make a 4 hour drive from west TN to SE KY on Friday. I guarantee I'll get pulled over or go through some sort of checkpoint along the way. Have people, parents, American society, all gone insane. Schools in Michigan shutting-down because of CT shooting and Mayan doom? Father's standing guard outside of schools? We truly have become a nation of pampered, cowed, television-possessed twits.

My daughter will be taking the subway to her high school Thursday and Friday. My other daughter will be walking to her Middle School on Thursday. My 10 year old son will be riding the school bus to his elementary school Thursday and Friday. And we live in the freakin' Bronx (which, despite all the stupid sensationalized tripe that's put-put about it, is a fine place to live).

Good God! When I think of how far removed we've become from the people who went through the Depression in this country (and survived begging for daily shape work, the dust bowl, bread lines), or rationing and war during World II only 70-80 years ago it's astounding. How did the people of this country become such self-obessed, small-minded, whiny, little piss-ant cowards.

Such a shame. Talk about painting a bullseye on our quivering, self-centered, concave chests. Truly tragic.
