Some Aussies are fuckin tarded. It isn't the gun that kills people, it's the person. In places where gun laws aren't applicable they have less deaths because they carry guns and can respond instantaneously.

Not sure what you are saying. We banned guns in the UK in the late 90's, and its amazing since then we haven't had any gun crime at all. No gang related shootings, no bank or security van hold ups, no police shooting innocent electricians, its brilliant, after all if guns are banned then no one can get hold off them.

Why punish many. For the acts of a few.

No because they are screened and usually not psychotic, and they need to uphold the law.

You can talk all day long about illegal possession etc, crooks getting hold of guns, selling illegally etc, custom made, the whole deal, but life in prison is a massive deterrent. A very small percentage will put their entire life at risk over a weapon. They will decide its not worth the risk.
