Madison, WI received 9.5 inches of snow Thursday, breaking the old record of 4.6 inches set in 2000.

Numerous vehicles in ditches throughout McDonough County, IL with people stranded. Highway 136 east of Macomb is closed.

Combine this map and the graph of temps and this could be the 'warm-up for what next week brings. Snow piled up against a house wall actually acts as insulation. (or a dumpster tipped on it's side and a crawl space for the entrance an a tint vent in the top to let the candle fumes out. Putting a tin-can over the flame makes 4x as much heat as a flame without the can.

I measured 18.5 inches in a shielded area of my backyard.

It's cold, 17F and very windy. But SUNNY!
Lots of limbs falling, people walking in the streets to avoid falling branches.
Many rural roads are impassable due to drifts, some even in the city.
I am sore as hell from all the shoveling. ;-`)

Interesting to see how this fresh snow cover affect subsequent air masses moving south from Canada. This will like keep modification of cold air very low thus meaning colder air moving south.
