i guess many think drs are infalible.my young mate had a little bump over each eye,she asked dr if they could be removed,this specialist eye surgeon did cosmetic job,even i thought was wrong.turns out he could not recognise her tear ducts.for rest oif her life,every 5 secondsa had to put drops in her eyes as no moisture at all for ever.

Stem cells are pluripotent cells. They can literally become anything. While stem cells can be coaxed into become certain kinds of cells under the right conditions, we don't know much about them.

If you know anything about medicine, then you know that there are certain tumors called teratomas. They are misplaced cells, possibly embryonic in nature, that have pluripotent cells within them. They will often develop every possible tissue within the tumor even hair and teeth within that tumor.

Putting stem cells just anywhere is not wisdom. Unless one is very careful, and even if the utmost care is taken, very bizarre effects could occur as unusual tissue begins to form where they are located.

Because of the potential of stem cells, there's an incredible opportunity to heal some people, but folks should realize there's also enormous risk.

We've been giving people special pluripotent blood cells for a long time in order to help them repair and replace existing blood cells. In most cases the patient gets a helpful boost.

Using stem cells for cosmetic reasons seems like a lot of risk for a small amount of benefit.

If it is unknown what kind of tissue these cells will ultimately become, what in the world are people doing selling this procedure as having some sort of cosmetic benefit?

Part of me wants to look upon this woman with scorn, willing to do something so unpredictable for the sake of looks. What is so wrong with aging the way nature intended?

Our medical system is fucked up!! I'm an RN and left the SFVA 5 yrs ago where I had a high management position. I was up for promotion to a senior or "department "Chief" which would have been extremely prestigious, high paying and a cush way to slide into retirement. The SFVA receives most of the federal funding within the department of Veterans Affairs for research and they are affiliated with UCSF Med School and other medical schools.

As I was being groomed for this position, I observed a number of real life "conspiracies" going on including internal attempts to squash or sabotage research projects, falsifying of information or findings and data on research and outright singling out of individuals assigned to head up research teams. If you are not part of the Borg and do not tow the party line at the VA you truly are considered a rogue and they will go to any lengths to get rid of you. I was asked to participate in the termination of a research MD whose project and project results were threatening to the department. This included tracking his hours, his patient contact, review of all of his documentation, etc, and finding anything that could result in disciplinary action. If there was nothing objective, then I was asked to just....well...make something up.

Off topic I know, but the point is that there is no integrity in medicine and to trust the medical community blindly with some procedure like this woman did, is insane.
