Re: i love my state - TN to secretly arm teachers
Being armed didn't help those at Ft Hood, what makes you think arming a civilian teacher would be any different.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 628775

The soldiers at Ft Hood weren't armed, stupid. What, do you think that all soldiers on state side bases carry around M4s? Only the MPs are armed except during training.

What you are suggesting is that a gunman is some type of omnipotent being that can't be killed.....except by law enforcement I suppose.

No, a teacher should be able to shoot as well as the typical unskilled madman.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 29856998

So you are tellingme that there wasn't one gun on site at FT Hood?

bsflag
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 628775

You OBVIOUSLY do not know the facts, Canucktard. Other than military police, NONE of the soldiers had ACCESS to firearms at the time of the attack.

Not only is this information available to anyone who spends a few minutes investigating, but I had a friend who was stationed there at the time, and HIS story confirms the facts.

Please... Do just a LITTLE bit of research before making an ass out of yourself.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 28776776

I think you are missing his point retard. What he was saying was that the threat of being stopped by MPs who were armed didn't act as a deterrent, and those were soldiers. I wonder how much he would have sweat over some out of shape, poorly trained teacher with a handgun barely powerful enough to cause serious injury.

I am just waiting for some mouthy teenager to be shot in class by some old burnt out teacher.

Perhaps they should have tasers instead?
 Quoting: lightchild_uk

Yeah... There isn't a snowball's chance in hell that some burnt out teacher who has had enough and just snaps would open fire on a bunch of students. I mean, teachers have NEVER snapped and assaulted students before. Not a single teacher has EVER had to be committed or take a leave of absence after having a mental or emotional breakdown.

What will the solution be then? Arm the students?

Besides, there was a good chance there would have been well-armed and well-trained law enforcement in that area or on school grounds, and that didn't stop him. I'd love to see what some poorly trained teacher with a tiny handgun that probably wouldn't put down a perp without emptying the whole clip would do against a heavily armed perp in body armor who has the element of surprise.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 9664906

Your solution then is to just keep going with the "Gun Free Zones?"

I wonder what is wrong with your brain.

More specifically, I'm saddened that your parents chose to breed.

The Fort Hood personnel weren't armed.

Not lecturing you, just wanting to point this out - very explicitly - to those who keep trying to ignore this fact.

Hey... I AGREE with you, so no NEED to "lecture".

I know! I was only pointing this out because other posters continue to overlook the facts.

You know after all the shootings that have happened in areas where no guns are allowed you would expect the goverment to start placing some trained/armed police men or security guards but nope they never think about that, the only thing they think about is taking the guns away from the people while having there own armed security guards guarding them 24/7, damn hypocrites. redface

This is beyond ignorant. Fear mongering at it's finest.

If this law were to pass, how long before some teacher feels threatened by Tyrone or Bubba and blows him away?

Just wait until some teacher sits down, has a misfire and shoots some kid in the face or has a mental break down in class and goes ballistic...literally.

What's next? Stand Your Ground in the classroom? TSA in the elementary schools? National Guard at the High Schools? Papiere, Bitte?

I live in TN and have an 11 year old daughter. I also have a close family member that is a master gunsmith for a large gun manufacturer. Just for some perspective.

The media really did it's job this time. Most of you guys are scared shitless.

Just pointing this out for, you know, perspective.

Let's try and work your issues out. You say that we are "scared shitless." I have to wonder about someone like you. How can you turn on your television and see the tragedy that happened in Connecticut and not be concerned for the safety of your child?

Do you realize that this isn't the first mass murder at a school? Do you think these things will mysteriously go away?

Or is your solution to simply say "Wow, you guys are scared. Do like me and just put your head in the sand!"

Don't you think enough innocent blood has been spilled? Why is this concept so difficult for you to grasp? Or are you another anti-American scumbag who wants us disarmed so that tyranny can prevail?

I feel sorry for your child.

You guys want to know the real reason people want to arm teachers so badly?

It ain't to protect your children. Give it a couple years, and the next massacre will be an armed teacher.

So what will happen after that? Bureaucrats will start passing draconian laws just like the PATRIOT act aimed at protecting your children from the teachers. Armed guards and security checkpoints at every school. They'll use this opportunity to crack down on "disciplinary" problems too. Your school will be turned into an indoctrination camp that is under martial law all in the name of protecting your children. They'll be sure to cover the hospitals and everything else as well while they are at it. Wouldn't want any "soft targets" where your children can get hurt.

What comes next? Because if you say, "why not take the guns away from the teachers?" they will just start screaming at you that you are unamerican and don't support your constitutional rights guaranteed to you by the second amendment.

They are using you. They are using your belief you have freedom and rights by leveraging your rights in such a way that they make you believe they are protecting them, when in actuality, they are are just using them to trap you and make you a prisoner. This is just another step towards total control of you all.

I see your point. I don't entirely agree with it, but I see it and I think I get where you're coming form.

Are they using us? It could be. So far I'd say they've played us masterfully. Like Mozart conducting one of his own symphonies.

The thing is though, what's to stop a teacher right now, today, from bringing a gun in and shooting the kids? Nothing. Right?

So far, the score is what? I don't honestly know, but it's something like (recent history here)

Innocent kids killed at school by lunatics: 100+

Innocent kids killed at school by teachers: 0

Shouldn't we look at giving this thing a chance? Have rigorous background checking and psychiatric evaluation for teachers to qualify to carry. Followed of course by serious training by law enforcement.

If they really want to nab us so badly, they're going to anyway.

I appreciate your post - it gives me food for thought.

cheers

The problem with Ft. Hood is that most on base ARE NOT armed. Seems "gun control" is in full force on our bases. Soldiers are not permitted to carry on base unless they're on patrol.

That stupid regulation cost a lot of lives.

Re: i love my state - TN to secretly arm teachers
The aussies don't have a dog in this fight.
They had their chance to defeat the gun grab, and failed, miserably.
Ignore them.

The rest of you proud americans, who wish yourselves and your kids
to be protected by a law; good luck with all that.
Your attitudes are the reason our rights of self-defence
of home and family are being systematically stripped.

Hope you sleep well.

You never know when some sonuvabitch is going to
kick your door in and rape your wife or daughter,
while you sit there watching with your thumb up your
ass.
Go ahead and explain to these lowlife scum, that what they are
doing is against the law and that they will be very, very sorry
when the PO-lice catches up with them..

Mmkay..?
