| Anonymous Coward User ID: 1144869 12/20/2012 02:49 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Yes, they should require at least one teacher with a gun for every 10 classrooms/teachers. I am a teacher and I think this could work. We prob have about 100 teachers, so thats 10 guns against 1 if anyone is ever stupid enough to try to pull something. Quoting: Machine42 There is no doubt in my mind that this will ABSOLUTELY work. The thing is though, each teacher/staff that gets qualified for this must carry concealed. This way any lunatics don't know who is carrying and who isn't. Make the schools a "hard" target. It's basic common sense, built upon thousands of years of fundamental military doctrine. Why don't lunatics shoot up police stations? Because all the cops have GUNS. My wife is a public school teacher, and she has a permit. We are in TN and she is going to do what she can to get on board with actively trying to get this legislation passed in our state. To all you anti-gun imbeciles: Only criminals will refuse to obey a "gun free zone" - they simply disarm the good guys. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 3168735 With that kind of logic, I'm surprised that you are not freaked out because police officers have guns. Stockholm syndrome Definition: Stockholm syndrome, or capture-bonding, is a psychological phenomenon in which hostages express empathy, sympathy and have positive feelings towards their captors, sometimes to the point of defending them. These feelings are generally considered irrational in light of the danger or risk endured by the victims, who essentially mistake a lack of abuse from their captors for an act of kindness. The FBI’s Hostage Barricade Database System shows that roughly 27% of victims show evidence of Stockholm Syndrome. Seems to be legit. And for the custodian who is scared that Miss Marples might shoot him,....go find a new job. |

There was always criminals and will be, but as we know they do not kill children in schools. You just need a "little" dose of realism to figure this out. |

| Maguyver User ID: 25512310 12/20/2012 03:53 PM ![]() Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Why not try a Life Alert- Quoting: LOM Why not try having teachers, etc. wear a life alert alarm. You could possibly add a camera? They could wear it around their necks, and tap it a couple of times to set off the alarm. What do you think? I posted this previously, but it was quickly buried. Well, the first responders could get there faster maybe. As has been said before, the police are more often investigating a crime rather than stopping it in the midst of commission. Adversity is inevitable, misery is optional. Do or do not. There is no try. "The enemy will never attack where you are strongest...He will attack where you are weakest. Use them both. I'm sure taxpayers would consider this option especially for elementary schools where the teachers and children are vulnerable. |

Would you like to work in a environment where the chance of mistaken identity means you get shot? I've got 117 schools that I work at and it may be 3 months between visits...when I come down from a roof inspection bumping into someone that knows me is kinda rare? Let me say again...I'm PRO GUN!!...I just do not think this is the best solution to this problem. |

| Anonymous Coward User ID: 1144869 12/20/2012 06:08 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'm going to write my State reps and county sheriff in TN and tell them I support this legislation. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1144869 If you live in one of these states, please do the same. I would recommend you go through the proposed legislation with a fine toothed comb and fully understand the law purposed, on each little jot and tittle, every word, every phrase, every clause, every sentence... and work to understand the desired consequences and consider the possible unintended consequences before you do such equally knee-jerk thing as approve of the passage of a law just because is 'seems' its going to do the desired job and 'others' are in favor of it -- usually these will have taken even less care to read and understand it then even perhaps you. Law, that is to say, Legislation is not for the weak minded, its is very difficult to draw up legislation as a purposeful. Consider also that you yourself are only one vote among thousands or tens of thousand or even millions of others your your same State Legislative District. Great point! Thank you for this advice - will do! |
| Anonymous Coward User ID: 1144869 12/20/2012 06:11 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | HOW ARE YOU DENSE PEOPLE OK WITH THIS?! Quoting: jadksn 30407898 What are they going to do next? Lay bricks over where the windows used to be? Have a TSA checkpoint before you enter the school? Barbed wire fences around the school? Are you reading the same thread as the rest of us? You do know that criminals already disregard the law, right? Anyway, who in their right mind would want the TSA doing school checkpoints? My God man. We're talking about having a SAFE school environment for our children. Arm the teachers and staff. Keep our kids safe. |
| Anonymous Coward User ID: 1144869 12/20/2012 06:14 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | A poster mentioned using a taser. I believe this is a good idea. Teachers could also have a Life Alert around their necks. These precautions could save lives. Quoting: LOM Actually, that's not a bad idea either I don't think. Maybe there could be tiers of protection? Some teachers/staff aren't comfortable with firearms, aren't willing to go through the training and certification for them, etc. However, they'd be willing to carry tazers? Another group IS willing to become school-certified firearm carriers. Let them carry. |
