Let Teachers Carry Guns? Some State Lawmakers Say Yes

By Mark Memmott

published on Wed December 19, 2012 12:52 pm

There are reports from a variety of states about local lawmakers who want to give teachers the right to bring guns to school. They're making the case that school shootings such as the one Friday in Newtown, Conn., that left 20 small children and six adults dead could be prevented or stopped if some school staffers were armed.

Monday, Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) said that teachers with licenses to carry concealed handguns should have "access to weapons in their school."

FWIW. I'm employed by the local School dist, one of the largest in the USA, about 70,000 students and....

while being in favor of Conceal Carry (prefer open carry,I wish)...I'm not in favor of this idea.

I'm in maintenance and NOT real fond of being shot at by "Miss Marple" because she did not recognize me and thought I was "there to Harm the Students"

Well of course if this is implemented there would have to be protocols to prevent something like that from happening.

Well, I think thats highly unlikely.

If they are going to pass laws like this, the teachers selected will be VERY well processed.

And if you select one, you must select another, to balance.

Have some common sense would ya?

Won't happen.

Just like the original CHL arguement. There's been none of the shootouts and road rage confrontations forcast by the anti-gun crowd.

CHL holders tend to be the most responsible people among us.

Once again you have morons thinking once they are 'allowed' to carry a gun that they will just start killing for no reason. They are locked in rooms with kids all day and don't kill. Plus if they wanted to they could bring a gun now. Please try another argument.

IF the libtards EVER pass 'carry' legislation, it will have so MANY restrictions, rules, 'locked in a drawer WITH trigger guard', etc. that they will never get into 'action' till the police arrive, to HIDE BEHIND their cars, lol !

I think it is about time.

The issue they are going to have is that schools are "Federal gun free zones".

The States did not make schools gun free in the first place, the Federal Government did (to allow these shootings to happen in my opinion).

Now, the states want to allow teachers the OPTION of carrying (which I agree with). But, is the Federal Government going to start arresting teachers for violation of Federal Law??

Or just cut Federal funds from the schools allowing it?

If the States want to fund these schools and tell the FEDS to screw off, I am all the more for it!!

Sanity and acceptance of reality, FINALLY!

Shills are out in full force on this thread...

THey don't like this idea at all...would put a stop to the false flags

THey would rather have our teachers and kids as sitting ducks in school.

or have our schools be like prisons with locked and guarded doors and armed guards etc.

The teachers being armed is an excellent idea...and don't let anyone know which ones are armed and trained.

heh heh....let the bad guys wonder who's gonna blow their fuckin head off if they make a move.

I am thinking each state should be allowed to decide their own policy towards bans. The federal government is assuming too much control which our founding fathers warned us about. America is supposed to be "For the People, by the People", not 'To the people, by a few persons".

Re: FL, MN, OK, OR, SD, TN are drafting GUN legislation to allow teachers to carry in schools
Here is a post I made in another thread: I work for a school district in Texas, thought it would be pertinent to post here as well.

An SRO is a sheriff that is assigned to a school. They handle crimes, fights, harassment in schools.

In Texas schools at least in my district they are armed with standard police issue tasers/hand guns. They also have rifles and shot guns on lock down.

Currently all middle schools and high schools have 2 SROs on campus at all times, after this event our school district will be adding SROs to the elementary schools. All the entry points into the schools are now going to be equipped with ballistic glass.

As an addendum to this our school district has decided to take 3-10 voulenteer teachers depending on school size and deputize them and allow them to carry while in school.

There was a determination made that arming all teachers would be a bad idea, and alot of teachers ABSOLUTELY wanted nothing to do with being arms in their classrooms. When it was proposed to arm only a few voulenteers and put them through police training course for weapons and engagement training it was a unanimous decision.

That is the current plan that is going through approval. Here is a general link of other districts in texas adopting similar policies or at least considering them.

[link to www.foxnews.com]

Here is some other info:

For years, some areas in the US have allowed "armed classrooms" to deter (or truncate) future attacks, presumably by changing helpless victims into armed defenders. In 2008, Harrold Independent School District in Texas became the first public school district in the U.S. to allow teachers with state-issued firearm-carry permits to carry their arms in the classroom; special additional training and ricochet-resistant ammunition were required for participating teachers.[44] Students at the University of Utah have been allowed to carry concealed pistols (so long as they possess the appropriate state license) since a State Supreme Court decision in 2006.[45][46] In addition to Utah, Wisconsin and Mississippi each have legislation that allow students, faculty and employees with the proper permit, to carry concealed weapons on their public university's campuses.[47][48] Colorado and Oregon state courts have ruled in favor of Campus Carry laws by denying University's proposals to ban guns on campus. Ruling that the UC Board of Regents and the Oregon University System did not have the authority to ban weapons on campus.[49][50] A selective ban was then re-instated, wherein Oregon state universities enacted a ban on guns in school building and sporting events or by anyone contracted with the university in question.[51]
Michigan State University as of June 2009, allows students to carry firearms on campus, the university still prohibits knives and other non-firearm weapons however.
A commentary in the conservative National Review Online argues that the armed school approach for preventing school attacks, while new in the US, has been used successfully for many years in Israel and Thailand.[52] Teachers and school officials in Israel are allowed and encouraged to carry firearms if they have former military experience in the IDF, which almost all do. However, statistics on what percentage of teachers are actually armed are unavailable.
