It's better than just being defenseless, sitting ducks.

Why don't they ever have mass shooting at a police station?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 30138093

Cops are trained...have you thought of who's tax dollars are gonna pay for Teacher training?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 30411784

This is what I am thinking. I have a friend, female with children, who became a cop. She got an assignment at one of the schools. I don't know if it was a high school or middle school. She doesn't look very threatening but she wouldn't hesitate to use her gun if she had to. I don't know if she would be able to "face down" someone on a killing rampage.

I agree, there should be someone specially trained for this sort of situation. Maybe a teacher with the National Guard or something? Or maybe if police made regular patrols of all the schools in the city.

This is just a really sad stituation.

I worked at a hospital about 25 years ago. The secruity guys did not carry a gun. A women came into the ER with her new boyfriend. The husband that she had recently left followed them, came in with a shotgun, began shooting, and killed her. After that, the secruity officers started carrying guns!

All of you crack smoking anti-gun folks need to get your heads checked. Taking guns out of the hands of good citizens will ensure everyone is sitting ducks for those that would break the law.

The second admendment was about arming the citizens with weapons. Not sport or hunting gear, but WEAPONS. It is for our own good.

I say arm the teachers. Or at the very least, arm the principle and/or the assistant principle. Any armed educator will be required to pass a lengthy background check and evaluation.

Let me ask:

Who's gonna pay for this, that's right, you and me, the taxpayer

are you ok with your taxes going up to pay for this "program"

let's see, there is the cost of the Firearm, then the cost of initial training, then on-going training...let's not forget Liability Insurance(man those premiums will be through the roof)

and to top it off...are they gonna carry 24-7...if so what happens when they use their School District weapon to kill their Spouse...who is gonna pay for that gigantic Lawsuit?...who you?

this is a "Knee jerk" reaction to a tragic event.

Re: FL, MN, OK, OR, SD, TN are drafting GUN legislation to allow teachers to carry in schools
Teachers are already charged with the safety of our children and we expect that our children will be safe while with their teachers. If a teacher goes through the proper training and is licensed to carry, that should be acceptable.

There is no way to remove guns from society, anymore than illegal drugs can be removed, despite the 40 years of war against them. Criminals and crazies will always be able to gain access to weapons if they want them.

There is no other way to defend against what happened at Newtown short of establishing TSA or some other entity at every school. I am sure you would enjoy aving your 6 and 7 year olds patted down and groped daily.

Have we reached the point in this country where we would rather invite the death of our loved ones rather than defend them?

Every politician who supports gun control policies which allow events such as those in Newton to occur, without the means to resist, is directly complicit in the deaths of every one of those poor babies.

In the meantime, now, they will push to disarm us all so that we can be as helpless as those who died Friday.

In Oregon, unless the teachers contract says no guns, CCW holders are allowed to wear their guns while teaching. This is the current law. Before a recent court case, all teachers with CCW's could carry concealed while working.

There is no law prohibiting the public, with their concealed handgun licenses, from carrying concealed in schools. Hopefully a few parents with CCW's will start volunteering their time.

Do you think a gun ban will not cost the tax payers money? Can you imagine the amount of cabbage its going to cost to try and confiscate 300 million guns?

One armed security guard at each school will go a long way towards deterring these incidents. The wussy shooters don't want people to shoot back.

Just look at places where the teachers are armed, next to no school shootings.

NO NO NO!!!!!!!!!!

My wife is a H. S. Principal of a very large School. This is absolutely the wrong approach.

She is LOCKING DOWN her H. S. and the Super is locking down all their other schools, about 12 of them, throughout the district.

They're bringing in a company to massively increase physical security and demanding/contracting with, the County for 11 additional DARE/SRO officers from the county.

Please don't put a gun in Wife's hands as the Principal and expect her to use it properly. She would be devastated if she hurt any of her 2,300+ kids that she loves with all her heart...and would lay down her life to save even one of them from this kind of thing first.

Security had just been increased a the school where the shooting happened at. That didn't save the children. The only weapon the principal had to save her children was her body. He used a couple of bullets on her and went on to kill an entire classroom of children.

Perhaps you and your wife need to get over your irrational fear of being able to protect oneself and get her to a gun range. Or at least get her some pepper spray and teacher her how to use it.

Let Teachers Carry Guns? Some State Lawmakers Say Yes

By Mark Memmott

published on Wed December 19, 2012 12:52 pm

There are reports from a variety of states about local lawmakers who want to give teachers the right to bring guns to school. They're making the case that school shootings such as the one Friday in Newtown, Conn., that left 20 small children and six adults dead could be prevented or stopped if some school staffers were armed.

Monday, Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) said that teachers with licenses to carry concealed handguns should have "access to weapons in their school."

While I agree with your thoughts on liberalism in the US, I also don't think we should REQUIRE teachers that are uncomfortable with fire arms to carry a concealed weapon.

This was an argument brought up in my district and it was decided the best course of action was to take voulenteers and send them to be deputised by the local police departments and trained properly.

Putting people who are scared of guns in a situation where they are responsible for it is probably not the best idea.

Also, classrooms are designed with one exit that lead into a hallway. These kids are sitting ducks. Assuming there is only one shooter I would like my kids have an escape route out of the building.

I am thinking each state should be allowed to decide their own policy towards bans. The federal government is assuming too much control which our founding fathers warned us about. America is supposed to be "For the People, by the People", not 'To the people, by a few persons".

Exactly. The only way this out of control federal government will be stopped from running amuk will be by the states asserting their 10th amendment rights.

Re: FL, MN, OK, OR, SD, TN are drafting GUN legislation to allow teachers to carry in schools
Let me ask:

Who's gonna pay for this, that's right, you and me, the taxpayer

are you ok with your taxes going up to pay for this "program"

let's see, there is the cost of the Firearm, then the cost of initial training, then on-going training...let's not forget Liability Insurance(man those premiums will be through the roof)

and to top it off...are they gonna carry 24-7...if so what happens when they use their School District weapon to kill their Spouse...who is gonna pay for that gigantic Lawsuit?...who you?

this is a "Knee jerk" reaction to a tragic event.

and destroying our constitution isn't? so you think spending money on our children is a BAD THING? it's bad enough people like you deprive our children of a up-to-par education by cutting school funding all the time. god forbid if we spent any tax dollars to protect them.... tantrum
