My father (in Memphis) worked for Gardner & Howe in the 80's. That company got a lot of attention when they started supporting the whole Earthquake Coming Soon mythology.

The engineers and construction firms made a killing on re-modeling and strengthening the buildings throughout the area. They fortified the Liberty Bowl and the hospitals, etc...

Eventually, the lack of an earthquake became apparent, and G&H closed shop. Be prepared, but don't count on needing to be prepared.
