Here's a little known hint, hard muscle gained from lifting weight makes you big by bulking muscle. This muscle built is slow and tight muscle that wont do you any good.

i lift kettlebells for functional strength and muscle gains, and i guarantee im stronger and fitter then any tai chi yoga tards

but i do agree traditional body building type weight lifting is stupid

Yes & no, I used to power lift & then changed to Olympic lifts ie power cleans, my functional strength went through the roof. I use to compete in Brazilian jiu jitsu tournaments, and after I changed to Olympic style lifts my take-downs were out of control

I lift heavy weights slowly, and light weights quickly. Best of both worlds. This way I'm strong and fast. That yoga stuff is for sissys.

Yes & no, I used to power lift & then changed to Olympic lifts ie power cleans, my functional strength went through the roof. I use to compete in Brazilian jiu jitsu tournaments, and after I changed to Olympic style lifts my take-downs were out of control

I would echo this statement from mine and my sons point of view, although we didn't compete at your standard mathetes.

My son is much faster/fitter/stronger/supple than me (which is great) because he started at 16 with normal weights then changed to Olympic lifting at around 19. He is now 23 and very, very strong and fast. He has also done some mma/jiu jitsu (basics) and some basic kickboxing.
He taught me about fast twitch muscles.....
I came from martial arts, kickboxing/thai and then some basic mma background, but always did medium weights.
