Sadly, SSRIs are over-prescribed.

In some cases they are quite effective, and enable persons with depression, OCD, or anxiety (and sometimes a mixture) to live normal lives.

In other cases, doctors throw these meds at patients who really have other very serious mental problems (psychosis, etc.) hoping to calm them down.

Finally, some people just don't respond well to drugs like SSRIs.
